Well, it seems we need to get down to brass tacks on this :-pI didn't give it a profile to cut down on costs. You would be surprised how much more expensive a keycap with a profile is.
What are you going to do with the top, it looks totally flat, are you going to give it a cylindrical or spherical profile? I know it would be more, but I don't think totally flat would be very appealing.
Seal emblem engraving? ???
Seal Ingraving?

Can you engrave a moose on it?They will be 1cm high, which is about the same height as f-row cherry profile keys. You could use them for bottom row, but since they have no profile they might not match too well. I think they would work best as an esc key or even as the three media keys that some boards have.
Also, what height are they? Similar to top row? Would bottom row be possible (nice for some Fn keys)?
That's what I was thinking initially.. I'm still confused :confused:Seal emblem engraving? ???Seal Ingraving?

Navy Seal maybe?

Not a bad concept, any idea which row these will fit, or when you say no profile, are you going to keep it completely flat? They are square-shaped. Completely flat.
Curious as to how these would look on a board though, like does the height match with row1 (function row)? These are 1cm high, very close to the height of Cherry profile R1 caps. I'm curious too. I think they'd be most suited to esc, or as media keys.

I have my prototypes here now. They're absolutely beautiful and my machinist has done a great job of the engraving. They're also bulky as hell (weight 25g each) and have an amazing feel to them. I need to smooth some things out with them before I even think about selling any though.
They're hard to photograph since they're so shiny.. but this should give a good idea of how it looks. I'm afraid I don't have an MX board to put it on atm.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/sro1v50.jpg)
I don't think you'd want to put it on a key you use frequently :)) At least it isn't 50g.. then you wouldn't even be able to use it on lighter switches. Thanks for the compliment :)Not a bad concept, any idea which row these will fit, or when you say no profile, are you going to keep it completely flat? They are square-shaped. Completely flat.

It really does look fantastic. Very heavy though, you'll need a heavier spring under that bad boy to compensate. I wonder if anyone would fill an entire keyboard with these lol.
Lead-free?

Since when did Brass contain Lead?
Also I am in for a few of these once you start selling :)
I'm pretty sure its fine unless you decide to ingest the key or put it in your water supply.Yeah. It's totally fine. Even an entirely lead keycap would be fine.. It's not going to poison anyone :))

You now I'll buy at least one just to have bro!!!...I think it should say sPaMrAy
Photekq, would it be at all possible to share the CAD files for these, I would like to see if the local machinist can make these, I might get him to try on other materials as well, such as SS, Alu.No, not at the moment. I'm still playing with the design and waiting to hear back from testers. Maybe at a later date, but at the moment I still have many things to change.
Soon. Soon :)You now I'll buy at least one just to have bro!!!...I think it should say sPaMrAy
^^ :'(
I'd be interested depending on price. :)
Looks pretty cool. How is the fit on the Cherry MX stem? I have heard that metal keycaps will sometimes fit very tightly.
I'd be in.Different cases have different heights for their bezels.. It's hard to make it look nice.
You should look into blockers...
Okay everybody. If this doesn't get you excited for these I don't know what will! Welcome to the dark side.
In case it isn't clear, the logo on this is raised, rather than being engraved and cut into the cap. I really like the look.
Please enjoy the photos below and an album with 11 additional photos here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/99522542@N03/sets/72157635006005506/).

Any word on this? :DNext revision coming soon :)
That prototype looks kick ass photeq. Thanks man :D

Can I get one with a Darth Vader etching? That would look so badass..

+1
I wouldn't mind a storm trooper either :D
I made a couple of possible designs in Inventor, if possible I'd like to get the knuckle duster one, if you're still making these.Still in kinda semi-beta phase, so they aren't readily available (yet). Knuckle duster looks really nice though :)
Definitely interested. I would love to have the Half Life lambda on one of these.
Any chance you could get these cut with a topre stem?I'm sure it could be done. I would like to get the MX design perfected before I try it though.
I need a tester. (currently have 3 testers, need 4) Keycap will be made for you in the next few weeks. It'll cost around £30-35+shipping. You can choose normal engraving, negative engraving (like the starwars one) and you can ofc have your own design.
PM me if interested.
Can't wait till I can officially buy some. Are they going to be limited numbers or what ever production can support?I really can't say at the moment. I am just working on making the design perfect at the minute.
A planet express logo would be sweet
I was stupid enough not to be a member yet :))A planet express logo would be sweet
Where were you with these ideas when I was picking a design for my cap?? That would have been a great idea. :p
Found this in the total mess of folders and photos that is my desktop. Pretty cool I think. Shows hoffman's star wars cap mid-machining. I know cpt will love this one..Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/l5jKjez.jpg)
I really have no clue, sorry. My machinist is currently away so I cannot ask him.Found this in the total mess of folders and photos that is my desktop. Pretty cool I think. Shows hoffman's star wars cap mid-machining. I know cpt will love this one..Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/l5jKjez.jpg)
How long does it take for one of these to be machined on average, I know it depends on the design, but a rough estimate.

Got mine today, and I gotta say it looks incredible in person. You did a great job on these and it fits perfectly snug on the stem, not too tight and not at all wobbly. Gonna post some pics and short review tomorrow :thumb:Great to hear! Looking forward to pics from you and Hoff!
nice one.Ooh yeah, I like that one!
a "Full metal alchemist" icon could be nice on this
Thanks for posting pics noisy and hester. Happy to see they arrived safely. Only nubbs' is still in the mail!
I know. I'm wondering why it's taking so long. It's said that it's being sorted in L.A. for a while now.Any idea what day I sent it? I don't have records of PMs I've sent.. :'(

Has the Group buy started? How come people already have caps?
Has the Group buy started? How come people already have caps? It's totally in beta phase at the moment. The caps you have seen are for people who are testing out the design. Not sure if these will ever be readily available or in a GB. We'll see where it goes..
Need some topre keycaps to measure first ;)Has the Group buy started? How come people already have caps?
He had a limited beta test run

It's pretty awesome. The one thing I noticed though is mine doesn't sit quite square on the stems, it has a minor tilt to it.
Firstly, great photos. Secondly, what exactly do you mean by it not sitting square? Do you mean the stem isn't perfectly in the centre, or do you mean the cap is at an angle when it's seated? Either way, that really sucks, and I'm so, so sorry, I should have noticed that when I tested it :'( is there any chance you could provide a photo of it once it's on a keyboard? Does it effect functionality at all, or is it only a small problem?Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/h1kAzvz.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/iczJ7eS.jpg)

I might have to try it in different orientations or swap out the switch then. It's bizarre that I only notice it on the Esc. Like I said, it's minor, just noticed it and went OCD overdrive. When I use it, I won't notice it, especially if it's on a 60%.Good to hear. Thanks again for the great photos.
Is there a way to have these anodized? They're brass, so no. If they were made from aluminium then it would be possible.
I wasn't clear.. Which one is supposed to be the 'anodised' medal?
The one on the rightRight, that looks like polished brass. I guess you would want to have it coated with a clear coat or something similar to prevent oxidation.
