Anyone interested in a group buy for a Teensy 2.0 at Massdrop, please vote here:
https://www.massdrop.com/vote/mechanical-keyboard-controller-diy
Please, no threadcrapping regarding the merits or faults of Massdrop. That has been discussed ad nauseum, and those of us who will use them will continue to do so. And those who won't, simply will not. Thanks!
-
why not 3.0?
-
why not 3.0?
Because the Teensy 2.0 is used for production boards, such as Phantom and ErgoDox.
Edit: Also, because it uses the ATmega32U4 controller IC, for which we have existing firmware.

Price scale? They're pretty cheap to begin with.

That's something I don't know. Some people may buy several, so it could save several dollars overall for those people.
:llama:

Interested.
Sourcing one in India is hard, expensive and time consuming.
-
I will vote. I've honestly wanted to buy some Teensys, but I just don't know where to begin, and this lack of knowledge has caused me to become complacent in purchasing them.
-
I'll probably grab a few. bavman got a dollar or two discount for each when buying directly from pjrc.com for our phantom GB. If MD can't offer lower price than that, we might as well run our own GB on them.

Planning a custom built MY switch keyboard?

voted. i'd pick up a few to play around with even though i don't really know what id do with them at this point.
-
I voted. You can always use a few more teensys!

But of course. 60% MY? HHKMY!!

Maybe for an additional option to this, someone could suggest the wiring that people have been using to direct wire matrices? Or something else that could help people start projects?
-
You mean this thread (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=40567.0)?
-
Yes, sir. Now I know you could probably use whatever wire you can find, but just like these Teensies, I don't go looking for things like this. For people like me, it's all about convenience. If I could get Teensies with some good wire all in one shot, I would be happy.
-
I voted, it will be interesting to see what price discount can be had if enough interest develops.
-
By the way, how exactly does Massdrop work? How involved is Massdrop in the buy? Do they just negotiate with manufacturers to get low prices, then you do the rest?
-
I voted for it, but also throwing out a suggestion to have them include pins. These are super cheap on ebay.

you could have it as a addon so people don't have to desolder them.
-
I've just bought a couple of controllers but I'm in, always wanted to try a Teensy but buying one locally is like $40
-
I'd definitely be in for one or two if they're cheaper than from elsewhere including shipping.
-
They have a price listed there of around $16. That seems fairly cheap to me.
-
It's $16 normally (+ship)

Yeah that's what I meant, loose pins included. The ones included with Phantom had presoldered pins, and those were a ***** to work with, especially when you have to take off the plastic spacer. I'd rather solder pins myself.

oh ok. i think that if they can sell a lot of teensys that they can give out the pins for free (not presoldered)
or source them from somewhere else in mass very cheap.
-
Pins hardly cost anything.

Voted!

can this teensy be used with IBM Model F's?

Yes, very much so. See Soarer's XT/AT/PS2/Terminal to USB Converter with NKRO thread (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=17458.0) for more info. :)

Might someone be able to link me to the pins that were discussed? No one has suggested them, and I imagine if they don't get suggested, they will never be voted on or added. Also, did no one else have an opinion for wire?

I don't know where you purchase them, but they are header pins with 2.54mm spacing.
Also, for direct wiring, I always use 24AWG telecom cross connect wire. Because I used to work in telecom, and I have a 1000ft spool of it leftover. :)
-
Thanks! I added them in. Go vote for them.
-
Thanks JD.
I will need two in a few weeks for my first ergodox ...
8-)

Seems that we already have 74 of 78 votes - however massdrop is displaying this message:
"This poll needs 122 more votes and Massdrop will post an official response. "
Anyone got what that means?

Alex, don't exect Massdrop to do this. It was a poll on there, and as things started going, it seemed like we had to hit a moving target. Because of this, jdcarpe (guy who started the MD poll) said **** it and did his own. He had 132 bought via is private drop.
-
What is a teensy used for?
-
it is a microcontroller with USB connection that is frequently used for people trying to build their own devices. Around here they get used for making Keyboards and mice.

How do you fit that in a mouse? I can see fitting that in a keyboard, but a mouse?
-
The teensy is tiny. Smaller than most PCBs in mice.
-
I love it !
-
Voted, although I dislike massdrop a lot.

Not sure this is still active, since JD ran a group buy on his own for teensy boards, it was very succesful!
-
It is inching closer to a smaller number before massdrop claims they'll respond. It is now off by 6. JD had 132 bought as part of his private group buy, and when he started that, the number at mass drop humped to like 140 before they would comment.
