Hi!

My name is Byungho Kim and am helping Duck0113, who designed Duckmini V2, for group buy in out side of S.Korea.
I am really pleased and honored to introduce Duckmini V2 in Geekhack.

Duckmini V2 is designed for not only sophisticated feeling but also extream customizing.
Especilly, Duckmini V2 set includes both Cherry and Alps frame, so you can choose Alps or Cherry switches.

Duckmini V2 is now in production, so Duck0113 is expecting that he will be able to ship the item by the end of August.
However, the schedule might be changed by unexpected issues.

You may use the following links to place an order.
http://duck0113.tistory.com/37 (http://duck0113.tistory.com/37)
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mY9rhcbbBxJsILAYhgd-eQ1ik3q1v8x_Q3NerqACexg/viewform (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mY9rhcbbBxJsILAYhgd-eQ1ik3q1v8x_Q3NerqACexg/viewform)

If you have any question about Duckmini V2, please feel free to contact me. (bhplus.kim@gmail.com)

Thanks.

- Duckmini V2 Basic set : $245(without taxes and delivery fee)

   1 Aluminum hosuing.
   1 Aseembled PCB without switches.
   1 Frame for cherry switch.
   1 Frame for Alps switch.

- Duck Raiser(Option) : $62(without taxes and delivery fee)

1 Duck Raiser for adjusting Duck Mini2 housing angle from 7 degree to 11 degree.

   Made of Aluminum 6061-T6
You can choose silver, red or black color.
You can adjust housing angle from 7 degree to 11 degree with Duck Dummy(optional)

Now, you may use Poker 1 PCB, and if the shape of Poker 2 PCB is the same as Poker 1, you may use Poker 2 PCB too. However, since the dip switch hall is not through out the case, you need to detach PCB from the case to adjust dip switch mode.

- PCB

You can install switches with/without frame.
You can install Cherry or Alps switches.
Support keymapping.(The keymap program is based on text and command,so you need a little bit knowledge of XML and command)

  Frame for Cherry switches.
  1.5T SUS

- Alps Frame

  Frame for Alps switches.
  1.2T SUS

What Alps stabilizers does this use? You never answered that in the other thread.

Oh i am so sorry. I thought i explained it. My mistake.

The Alps frame is desgined for Old Dell and SGI, so if you have stabilizers which compatible with Old Dell or SGI they should be installed.
Also, Duck0113 tested only Old Dell and SGI Keycaps, so i think who wants to install Alps should make sure having an Old Dell or SGI first.
Unluckly, most of all keyboard from Apple doesn't look like fit in.

If you want to use another keycaps than please let me know and review it first. I will let you know if PCB installs it or not as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Oh, and what PCB does this come with exactly?  I just thought these cases were made for the Poker.

I think duck dummy=riser, the thing you see on the back that changes the angle.  Kind of like the feet at the bottom of keyboards.

Yes, soldering would be required. You can do this yourself, or there are many people here in the forum that can do it for you.

For doing it yourself, I recommend WhiteFireDragon's great videos - Ergo-Clear Mod (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnvkZ0d9hSI&list=PL00EjuPMbgnLdRCyjSPuqaiTo-6bmc9eX) has a lot of great info in it. For what to buy, be sure to check out the Living Solder (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=42824.0) thread.

If you're looking for someone to build it up for you, then be sure to check the Professional Services Directory (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45886.0)

For Cherry, Duckmini V2 supports the following combinations.

- Normal right shift or 1.75 + 1
- Steped Capslock or straight capslock
- Winkey or Winkeyless
- 2x Backspace or 2 individual keys(You cannot use the frame for this combination)

For Alps

- Only support Old Dell or SGI.

I promised myself at the start of this that I wouldn't have more than one keyboard of each switch type and I've only got green left to go :P

The alps bit is the only thing that interested me over all the other 60% happenings at the moment.

According to this thread, white anodizing is lengthy and expensive, so if it were available for this GB, it'd probably cost significantly more money.

I am very sorrry for that i didn't write the maximun quantity on this thread.

Usually, Duck0113 makes enough cases for reparing, so if you really want to buy Duckmini V2, please send me a PM by 27 July.
Once the GB finishes and if there are left cases, i will contact you in order.
I won't send an invoice for this backorder and won't collect payment until i know there are left cases.

I am really sorry about it again.
Thanks.

I haven't actually tried any Alps/Alps clone variants I like though, barring Montereys, which don't have the same pin configuration as real Alps do if I recall correctly.

Do you mean Cherry and Alps frame? Then yes.
Also, you can install Cherry switch without frame. It means you can use PCB mounted stabilizer with Cherry switch.

Thanks.

Sorry for the offtopic-ish bump to this thread.

I was wondering: how were the LEDs soldered/mounted into the alps board in the OP?

Alps switches (at least those clear matias ones) don't have a hole for an LED like cherry switches do.
Title: Re: [GB] Duckmini V2 Group Buy [In production]
Post by: calavera on Wed, 04 September 2013, 20:52:47
LED's soldered on the bottom of the PCB and bent through the center hole which cherry switches would mount to.

Ah, ok, that sounds kind of painful to do. I may end up doing this with matias silent switches on the redline/LZ 1800 (transparent edges on the case too...).  Certainly not on this duck mini, it's getting (opaque) blue clicky alps :D

Thanks so much!

I installed 470 Ohm resisters for LEDs, so the currents would be 5~10mA for each LEDS.
I made the firmware and will release keymapping tools soon.

I posted this on another thread.

There are some defects and imperfections regarding this case.  Some explained by TrueCustoms himself and some I've found after careful inspection.

- There is a chip on the side of the riser due to the anodizing process.
- The plates are stainless steel and the back side of the plates have laser burns.
- PCBs are missing ONE diode on them
- A minor scratch on the flat corner

Hopefully the scuffs don't show up so much on the silver ones  :blank:  The plate seems to look nice from the top, so no big deal there.  Excited to get this, regardless.  Thanks for the pictures!

Are the diodes a standard size/specification? (Do diodes even have specifications that matter in non-high-power situations?)  I have a switchless QFR pcb around, can I just harvest a diode from it?

I'm not sure about which diodes.  TrueCustom let me borrow his keyboard to take some diodes off his for the missing ones on the PCBs.

I don't have them with me right now (at work).  I'll see if there is a specific number on it?

Probably a silly guess, but perhaps software is the issue?

Ah, sorry, by "those of us in the US" I really meant "those of us not in the same area of Canada that could pick up our boards in person" :)

Hi!

I could not use the internet for a while, because i moved. I am tethering my 3G.

First of all, you don't need to sorder a missing diode, because Duck0113 unrapped all packages and is sodering every diodes.
Therefore, the shipping date is delayed, but i think Duck0113 can ship the items very soon.

I am uploading F/W and keymapping tool kit in an hour on a new thread.
As i mentioned before, the keymapping tool kit is based on CMD/XML, so it is difficult to use.
If you have any question about it please use the new thread.

Thanks.

I am terribly sorry for being late.
I am going to use EMS and i think it delivers fast, but if you are not sure, you may receive it in NY.
Thanks

if you can ship really soon I would prefer it to be delivered here in Italy. There's really no rush, just let me know. Thanks!

Or, are they just going to magically show up one day?

The case is perfect A+ grade. No imperfections, no dents, no scratches. The back of the plate has some laser cut marks but the top (the visible part) is perfect.

Top notch.

Mine arrived yesterday. No tracking.

Packaged excellently with tons of foam wrapping. Inspected everything, but haven't built it. No dents, markings, or scratches. If I want to be super picky, there are some laser burn marks on the bottom of the plates, as Matt3o and others have indicated. There are also a few CNC groves on the inside of the case. None of these small imperfections are visible externally on the case.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the keyboard and I can't wait to put it together! Thank you TrueCustom!

Haha, mine looks 100% identical to yours (except blue switches instead of matias).  It came preprogrammed with both "windows" key places being remapped to fn and, as far as I can tell, no way to send an actual windows keystroke, so I may have to try remapping it.  Aside from that, the default keymapping is pretty sane.

Same color and keycaps (though I might try swapping the keycaps out for a northgate set).

I'm not a big fan of the Matias, maybe I'll put the alps blue if I find them.

apart from that it's a darn nice keyboard, typing on it right now. I wish I had a 1u to the right of the right shift.
