In case you don't care about the royal baby, here is a better piece of news. The new Cosmos with Neil Degrasse Tyson has a trailer!!!! Released at Comic Con. Although I am not too thrilled that FOX is airing the series.
-
Fox aired Fringe long after the ratings ran dry, so they're not all bad! I'm definitely looking forward to the new Cosmos series.
-
can't wait for this, Neil Tyson is a personal hero of mine, don't even want to watch because I'll get to excited
-
Awesome! I'm definitely going to be watching this. I loved Sagan's cosmos and Tyson is just as badass.
-
I'll definitely give it a chance. Will be interesting to see what they did with the 'cosmic calendar' and such.
OTOH, if its full of shaky-cam, cartoons and other gimmicky crap Hollywood has become hooked on since the original series aired, then I may not make it past the second episode.

I aWell his profile says 25, and since all 13 year olds are actually 40 year old men, that must mean he is ~80 years old. My math is flawless.
I am hoping that with Tyson at the helm, he will keep it from getting too gimmicky.
Regardless, I can't wait. I sat there looking at my computer screen wide-eyed and mouth agape. That doesn't happen very often.
The original Cosmos sort of shifted my view of the world. I went from being a cynical person to having a sense of wonder about the world and universe and making myself more open to learning.

I'll check in with you later to see if New Cosmos makes you cynical again. :D
Personally, Cosmos helped direct my sense of wonder away from superstition at a critical time.

nearly identical, -- but with the rugged M2 construction.
You mean "conventional Model M construction" don't you?

That too. The series basically cemented my thoughts on any lingering superstitious thoughts.

Looking at that trailer again, I noticed a few differences such as the Ship Of The Imagination no longer looking like a dandelion seed.
One thing that would put me off is if they play up the interpretation of quantum mechanics that implies infinite parallel universes continuously keep popping into existence. This is where many science shows diverge into fanciful tales of magic, IMHO, and we are left staring at 10+ minutes of writhing CGI upchuck while the narrator lays the groundwork for perpetual motion machines and contradicts himself about every 5th sentence.
OTOH, with some discipline, they could make a series that surpasses the original in getting across the gist of Sagan's message.
-
I need to refresh myself on the original series. Time for a binge viewing! Or substitute my daily geekhack time for one episode of Cosmos per day over the next week.

I thought it was coming out this year :(

I don't get it, why is Lionel Richie making a TV show about space?
