Title: Looking for a Tenkeypad/Number Pad
Post by: audukent on Tue, 23 July 2013, 12:19:13
Looking for a sweet number pad... any suggestions?  Mechanical one of course.  I have a race mini and was hoping to find a number pad to accompany it.

http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeypads&pid=fc210tpnb

I grabbed this one and am digging it.  Same keys as my leopold 660c but now I'm freaking out using the topre switches for keyboard and browns for numpad #OCD

Take a look at the Leopold 210TP over on elitekeyboards. I've been thinking about getting one of those. Nice and sleek with a tight bezel.

If you want programmability, look into a mode 4 G80-3700 (MX 3700).

If you want to spend money, EK also has the Topre 23U.

And then there's the Filco one, though unless you care about matching it to a Filco keyboard, I don't see a reason to get anymore with the introduction of the Leopold, which just looks better all around (though I have yet to compare the two physically).

Ghetto Green = MX Black spring + MX Blue stem.

Also, if you're looking for some Korean in your life, look into the KMAC Pad or the GON Kitty Pad. (There is also a 356Pad, but it is rare and expensive...)

This made me crack up.  Of course I would like some Korean in my life.  KMAC pad? GON Kitty?  I'll have to check these out.

Ghetto Green = MX Black spring + MX Blue stem.

Thanks for the clarification, sir!  I see, that would imitate the same experience as a green switch.  How well does it hold to the green switches?  I know the greens are hard to find and are close to 60-80 cents a switch.  Is it worth it?  If the 'ghetto greens' are legit, did you do it yourself?

like cpt said, black springs and blue stems.  i started with blues and harvested the springs from one of these - http://www.ebay.com/itm/G80-11900LUMEU-0-Cherry-Model-MX-11900-USB-CYA-White-Keyboard-W-Touchpad-/271225181010?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item3f2647d352

and when you're done making ghetto greens you end up with a bunch of ghetto reds haha

i cant tell the difference between the green switch and the ghetto greens by feel alone if that makes you feel better.  i'll try and do a quick ripometer when i get home to check weight.

I think Ghetto Greens feel pretty much the same as Greens. I got a deal on a QFR with Greens in it that I cannibalized for use in my KMAC. It's pretty easy to do the mod though.

If you're interested, I wrote a review (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=39992.0) on the Filco Numberpad.

I had a stock green as my spacebar and it felt heavy as all hell, so I swapped a black spring in and it definitely felt lighter. I wouldn't say they're the same, unless the spring that was in my green switch wasn't a green spring

Looks like I'm going to have to find some green switches.  Curiosity is getting the best of me.

That's cute. I always wondered what the weight tolerances on nickels and dimes were.

I got myself a filco Tenkeypad that only comes in brown. If your looking to try topre you could give their number pad a try, though you might just go ahead and purchase a topre board altogether once you fall with it lol.

I'm thinking of going with the GON Kitty Pad.  See the thread below.
