Finally another round of switch tools.. Don't have the money for them..
:'(
Want to order one, but won't have my uni shipping address until a couple weeks. Could I reserve one?
The thing is I won't have the address to put in till the 17th or so. I can just send you the money and pm an address later if that's fine.Want to order one, but won't have my uni shipping address until a couple weeks. Could I reserve one?
Go ahead, I can make shipping info changes if I NEED too.

My body is ready for R4 v.2
By the way, will these be exactly like the previous version? Or with some changes?
Oh no just curious! People were suggesting fancy additions, like wooden handles, so I was wondering if you were going to tweak the tools a bit (not wooden handles, but who knows!)

I was thinking of getting rid of the holes, but they are nice so that you can tie them together as a set instead of a loose pair

in the end you could still plastidip them :)
people have been asking you forever about it ^-^ :))
I've done 2 rounds already, gosh!
hopefully this rounds spoils will last a while!
Wait do I need to order 2 to open a switch? I just ordered 1.
Sorry I know you mentioned this was for CONUS only in the IC thread, are you now willing to ship international?

Nope, all orders are taken. International or CONUS

This tool is a must have,
I can't imagine modding switches without it
It's even good to remove diodes when they are stuck inside the switch (mostly on vintage boards I guess, like skidata)
Aah, what the hell. Don't cancel my order, I'm in, not out.
Can I cancel my order please? Just realized that I won't have the money.
In for one set. Unfortunately the set that Jocelyn so graciously provided me was a little messed up and doesn't quite work right.
I had the same problem with one of the two sets I bought from the very first round. The tip of the two prongs were not filed good enough, so they don't catch the plastic holes well. It's not hard to file it myself, but I already had another set so I didn't bother fixing that one that didn't work well.

What's wrong with it?
Looks like I missed a "u" out of my username on the order form "SerioSSpotS", just a heads up
beast can you change my order to 1 I still want but will live with 1 set
Sorry I know you mentioned this was for CONUS only in the IC thread, are you now willing to ship international?
You could probably just make 100 sets, and any leftovers would be sold before you even finish production.
The_Beast I made i mistake in my order form.
Please cancel the amazon pay order (1st order) and use my paypal payment instead.
Sorry about it.
Ordered a set! Just out of curiosity, when do you anticipate shipping these out with the order deadline being August 1?
Ordered a set! Just out of curiosity, when do you anticipate shipping these out with the order deadline being August 1?
My laser guy has had lead times between 3 days and 2 weeks. He's super busy and has even invested in another $300,000 laser cutter. However, he's slammed and needed that 2nd machine. So it's really hard to say.
If I order August 1st with a 2 week lead time, that puts me at 8/15 (My birthday) and I'll try to get a few sets done to sell or "ship" at Keycon and ship the rest after that.
I will be ordering August 1st and collecting payment shortly after. Needless to say, if you cancel your order after I've bought them, I'm not going to be a happy camper!

That's what I wanted to hear! :D Hopefully it'll work out that way and I can save a few bucks on shipping (?).
I thought I heard him say everyone gets free tools if we get to 100 sets ;)
Does the price drop now that there is such a high number of sets ordered, or was 50 the biggest drop?

Can you ship these in letter envelope?
So $4 to ship in a letter envelope? >.< Unless you mean padded envelope.
Envelopes, paper, and shipping, and time cost money...
uhhh any leftovers? I think I missed this :(
why do i keep forgetting to check the classified section......
grrrrr i missed this yet again, and i missed it so close to when it closed. Really could use these things.....

Everyone has been PMed instructions on how to pay!
Might take me a couple of days to get my payment sorted, been having problems on and off with my credit card the last few weeks. Worst case scenario I'll give some cash to my old man and have him Paypal it to you.

As long as you pay me in a semi-timely manner, I don't really care. I would like to have payment within 2 weeks since that should be enough time for paydays or to sort out payments.
Just waiting for my refund on another gb Beast! If it will take long, I'll pay tommorow or next day.
:)

One way or the other we've got Glod covered. Unless the The_Beast takes makes an exception and takes one more order. One little, wafer-thin mint of an order...

As long as I pay for it as goods, right?
^^^No worries, I'm starting to like Amazon payment more since there are no fees and no thread of locking an account like PP has. But I take both since PP seems to be the most popular payment method on GH
Never used Amazon Payments until now--what method of payment should I select there: Goods/Services or Cash/Advance?
Thanks.

I'd love to use it if they'd let me...they want me to fax them an official document with a bunch of my information on it. Yeah, not happening...
You can pay with Amazon Payments without adding your bank account--it just takes money off your stored credit cards.

Why do I have to see these threads always too late?
Any chance to still get some?
I picked up the tools this morning and sanded and bent around 3/4 of them. I'll be doing the rest tomorrow and shipping the CONUS on Thursday and International orders on Friday or Saturday.Well that was fast.
If there are any issues, feel free to Pm me, however, I'll be in the shop all day so I won't be able to answer questions until the evening.

Beast can you confirm I paid correctly and you didn't get slugged a fee? I know I marked it as goods and not a gift but don't remember seeing anything about a fee.
Reread his PM..or calculate the amount you paid..

I did actually look at my Paypal history but it says 0.00 fee. Thanks for your input though.
$8 + $13 = 21$ was the price for the tool.
How much did you pay? $22.14 right? $22.14 - 21 = $1.14 service fee.
No problem. I love helping noobs.
Beast wasn't getting the short end of the stick.
Just for clarification, does this tool allow you to open switches when they are still soldered to the plate?

Only if the plate is modified to allow that, such as WFD's universal plates. Stock plates on common keyboards, like CM QFR, won't allow you to do that--you'll have to desolder the switch.
waiting for the international shipping
Mine arrived today! Great turnaround.
Cool guys club. :)waiting for the international shipping

So if all are shipped, when will the leftovers be for sale?
So if all are shipped, when will the leftovers be for sale?
Yes, once I get everyone's tools shipped I'll be selling extras at a slightly higher than pre-order cost (like $1-$2)

Beast, I was never invoiced for my orders. What's up with that?
Bro... I ordered like 52 sets. Never received an invoice.
also i believe the tools are made to go in the top of the switch, in the picture it looks like your trying to use it on the bottom. see if that works maybe?
Do you have a wire cutter type tool? Could try that, followed by some sturdy sandpaper.

I kinda asked for mine to be picked up at Key Con..oh well.
Well, now that I'm looking into switch modding, this has my attention..
too late.
Anybody got an extra set they'd be willing to sell me at cost?
Thanks, guys.
Got mine on Monday.
One of the tool is not well-cut and it's a little bit longer than the other one.

This demo is just for illustrating how it works. In practical, you can use this tool to open a mx switch on a plate mount keyboard without desoldering the switch.

You might want to note it only works on plates that have the extra notches to allow for switch top removal otherwise you must desolder. It works on PCB mount just fine however!
Found another great use for these...... popping a cold one!

I wouldn't dare doing that with my one, atleast not use the notched end.

Fear bending them.
OP will be selling extras soon.
Assistance needed :-[
I just can't remove the top of a switch at all with these
I just end up mangling the notches in the switch before one side of the tool pops out
I've tried less pressure/more pressure and nothing seems to be working
Any ideas?

I've been trying that, doesn't seem to open my switches at all. Hmm. The ends of the tool slip out of the switch before enough pressure can even be applied.
Are they mounted on a plate? If yes does the plate have the proper cutouts so you can actually remove it? If yes is there an LED in the switch?I just got a pair off the classifieds and I can't figure out the correct way to use these. Anyone care to enlighten me? :p

I had the same problem with mine. You need to make sure they are being pushed all the way down. If they're not, they'll pop out. If they're popping out with the tool pushed all the way down, the angles on the tool might have been done wrong or the tips might be too wide still. You can see if you can fix it or someone can fix it for you. Maybe The_Beast will take a look at it and make sure it's made right.
I went back to my binder clip switch tool since I found it was more consistent. Limmy has a good guide of what one should look like when finished and a general idea of how to make it (http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/i-did-a-guide-of-how-to-open-cherry-switches-t2458.html#p43053). Both are good tools when you get a good one.
Well, it won't work on plate mounted since you have to desolder them and remove them from the plate to open them up on a plate mounted keyboard. It will only work on plate mounted if it has cutouts on it. It's for loose switches or PCB mounted switches.

I've tried on: A loose switch, a plate mounted keyboard, and a loose switch on a loose plate. Can't get it to work no matter what I try.
Thanks for the link Nubb. I'll check that out. I have been apply a lot of downward pressure to ensure they don't slip out but it seems as if this tool might be a dud - maybe that's why it was for sale!
Do the switches have LED's?Well, it won't work on plate mounted since you have to desolder them and remove them from the plate to open them up on a plate mounted keyboard. It will only work on plate mounted if it has cutouts on it. It's for loose switches or PCB mounted switches.
Yeah I know, it's a beast plate.

If you think the tool does not have enough "angle" to stay in, yo could try to bend the small part that are inserted in the switch to give them more grip. But before doing that, make sure it's the real problem and not something else.
