Title: cs:go tip tricks events discussion
Post by: domoaligato on Fri, 26 July 2013, 18:27:57
This is a thread I wanted to start that was dedicated to cs:go because others have mentioned it in a few other threads and I thought that this type of discussion needed to be separated from the "what games do you play" thread....

youtube videos that I continually find useful

Crosshair placement - from 1.6 but is one of the best videos ever.

HoltzmaN's CS:GO Lessons - Crosshair Placement & Improving Aiming

Better Games - Positioning - CS:GO

Better Games - Peaking - CS:GO

crosshair settings

my crosshair that I use from warowl

copy and paste this in your console....
Code: [Select]
cl_crosshairstyle 2; cl_crosshaircolor 5; cl_crosshaircolor_r 255; cl_crosshaircolor_g 100; cl_crosshaircolor_b 255; cl_enablecrosshairalpha 1; cl_crosshairalpha 255; cl_crosshairdot 1; cl_crosshairsize 2; cl_crosshairthickness 1; cl_crosshairgap -5

I will take a look at those videos. Btw, I've added you on steam and me + 3 others are planning on doing a game tonight in roughly 1 and a half hours. It'd be great if you could be our fifth :)

Oh, oh, add me on Steam.  Guess what the nick is?  If you guessed nubbinator, you'd be right.

I'm surprised that there needs to be a tutorial on crosshair placement. I'm no CS pro, but it seems like a pretty obvious thing to do.

viewmodel_offset_x 2
viewmodel_offset_y 2
viewmodel_offset_z -2
cl_righthand 0

these are a couple of settings to move your weapon.

cl_crosshaircolor "5"
cl_crosshaircolor_r "255"
cl_crosshaircolor_g "255"
cl_crosshaircolor_b "255"

for a white crosshair

cl_crosshairusealpha "1"
cl_crosshairalpha "200"

for solid crosshair

sooo much better :P

How does this compare to the original counter strike? Anybody played both and have an opinion?

How does this compare to the original counter strike? Anybody played both and have an opinion?

The game looks better?  The game play feels closer to OG CS vs. CS:Source, although it is also based on the source engine.  GO's hostage carry thing is sort of odd, and you take damage now if you are hit with a thrown flashbang or smoke grenade.   My main issue with GO is the few servers I've found I like to play on are generally full.  Who has some server recommendations?

Well the great thing about csgo is that you don't need to find a server, just hop onto matchmaking and get a nice match where everybody is actually trying.

I prefer to play on community servers where I can come and go as I please rather than the matchmaking which forces tryhard play, but the problem is that there are very few euro servers with decent population from what I've found.

I think so far the biggest issue is that we are a international community.
I host a server in seattle called the firm and most of the people that are playing are on the east coast or uk so far.

rxg is a great server for 24/7 office that has a custom mario game in the projector room....

Played a great competitive game with Dubsgalore, Photekq, domoaligato, and KangarooZombies last night. We started with a warm up round or two and then played an actual competitive game. Had a great time and we all played fairly well (we won 16:6). The other team even got mad at their own teammate because of the frustration, and ended up booting him :)) If anyone is interested in playing, please feel free to PM me or anyone else listed :)

Was a lot of fun, we killed the Comp Match, and had some good laughs

Group/New Thread coming very soon, as in today or tomorrow.

CS:GOs movement is so wonky compared to 1.6. Completely eliminates playing angles. You're better off rushing.

Had a great time with the GH crew in CS:GO tonight even though i played horribly in our comp games. As always, anyone can feel free to add me on steam for games.

Yeah, it was really fun even though I was completely knackered by the end of it (we started around 2am my time, ended 8am my time).

We all played pretty well in the comp. match.

The run and gun feeling from source has basically made it's way into cs:go with the latest patch to acceleration.
It makes peaking harder but it is still manageable.
the biggest thing that upsets me with go is that throwing a nade at someone and hitting them with it will slow them down. thus if someone is behind you and your rushing and the you get tagged it will block everyone else.

but like all versions of cs there will be many patches to balance the gameplay and it will work out in the end.

ESEA is trying to appeal to Valve with a video about the movement acceleration. I'll try to find it so people can see why this ADADAD nonsense/feeling like your on skates is ridiculous.

sv_accelerate "4.8"
sv_airaccelerate "16"

Drop rate sucks, seems like there are like 0-5 drops a round, and only if you finish. The system used in TF2 is better.

Also, the skins I've seen so far are pretty lazy compared to the custom skins that are out there. Although obviously custom skins will be better since the creators don't have any deadlines to meet or anything, but the official skins still seem a bit lazy.

The more CS has strayed from 1.6, the less I've played. Gave ProMod quite a chance too, but that simply never materialized in any true fashion. Will have to see if I load it up at any time in the future. Maybe to play with some people from GH.

Yeah. That is the main thing that makes me mad/sad. While I don't mind the drop rate (IMO, skins in CS:GO = Hats in TF2), the drop rate for the crates is just sad, and I feel they should be awarded immediately a la TF2 (where if you die you get it, or you can manually check it via menu).

A couple of skins that have caught my eye are both of the Elite skins, and the AWP skins. The AK skins are OK, but the M4 ones suck.

I also think that the non-strange (StatTrak for those not TF2-minded) weapons should only be drops, while the strange ones should be only crates.

On this subject, I need to fire up CS:GO and start idling.

Do you guys play a lot of CS:GO? I played it a fair bit with some friends a fair bit when it came out, but most have since stopped playing so I'm all lonely now. Add me on steam maybe luke.wanden :)
I have a couple of tips for any CS game, not sure if this is just common knowledge or not but here they are anyway:
Play with a resolution of 800x600, it's weird at first, but once you get used to it, it will make the difference between shooting a guy in the head first and getting shot in the head as you go round a corner or any situation similar.
Use the smallest, basic crosshair available, and really think about the colour that you'll be able to see best on any map
I was told these by a friend of mine who played CS:S semi professionally and did actually help me improve a bit, despite me never really being much good at CS :P

Resolution doesn't matter jack ****, some people are used to the black bars from 1.6 but afaik most of NiP are using 1920x1080 nowadays despite most of them coming from 1.6.

Also, I'm angry cause I haven't got a single drop >: ( I want the rainbow p90 : D
