Title: Allow myself to introduce... myself.
Post by: MTManiac on Wed, 31 July 2013, 12:49:55
Hi all!
2nd attempt, my first try failed because of too many attachments hahaha

Long time geek
          medium time lurker
                        first time poster     :p

I just want to say thanks to some of these posters (in no particular order) who have helped me while lurking: tsangan, precarious, IvanIvanovich, dorkvader, samwisekoi (thanks to those not listed also!)

Long story short, I have some old Royals I want to cannibalize for a couple new keyboard projects.

I am looking at getting a ducky zero and a poker II
I am also open to suggestions :)

Speaking of the Royals here they are
TA Royal Sattelite 4 (Blue/Grey Dyesub) Cherry MX Black (Vintage)?
TA Royal Alpha 115 (Green/Grey Doubleshot) Cherry MX Black (Vintage)?
TA Royal Alpha 610 (Green/Grey Doubleshot) Cherry MX White/Clear (Vintage)?
TA Royal Alpha 600P (Green/Grey Doubleshot) No Clue...

Here is a pic of all 4 listed, with more pics in following posts.

Welcome sir. Enjoy your stay and try not to go broke on your first day ;)

EDIT: Also, those are not cherry switches, rather a switch that has caps that most likely are compatible with Cherry MX switches.

I'm fairly certain they are cherry since it's molded into the switch housing so maybe not MX but compatible? that works for me :)
The only one where it isn't is the 600P

Sorry, what I meant to say was, they aren't Cherry MX switches.

The "Cherry MX Clear / White (Vintage)?" One appears to be Cherry M7 switches, the rest I haven't the slightest idea.

Ok, gotcha. I'm new to the terminology but looking to learn!

Is there an easy way to clean the keys, I heard denture cleaner works?

I can get better up close pics of the switches later tonight for a better idea of exactly what they are :)

Cool thanks!

I'm such a noob I didn't even know the M7 caps were compatible with the MX.

Looks like I have a lot to learn...

I'm fairly certain they do but don't take my word for it, you'd have to try it yourself for now. To simply clean caps, denture tabs work, or you can put them in a laundry bag and send them through the wash, that usually works for me.

Some more info on the M7's. The stems are different, and it appears that you can use MX caps on the M7's but I don't believe it's the same for the opposite. http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_M7

Yup. Take warm water, put the caps in, put the denture cleaner tabs in, wait 20 minutes, rinse and dry. Works good for people who have to pay to use a laundry machine.

Just make sure they're in a laundry bag or at least a tied up shirt or something. Don't wanna lose one of those awesome caps.

yea, I was gonna tie them up in a couple layers of cheesecloth
that way I can do all 4 sets at once without getting them mixed up
