For mx users who arent using any of the common 4 (blue, brown, red, black), what are you using? Did you pick your current switch over a common one? If so, why? And if you are using a modified switch (lubed, spring/stem swap), why and would you recommend it to others?
-
I'm using 62g whites because they're quieter than blues and a little bit heavier. I'd recommend it, still wanna try 62g clears though.
-
I have a Pure with MX Whites, a KMAC with MX Greens, and my Epsilon will have 65g Blacks. I also plan on modifying the Pure to have MX Black springs and my Leopold to 65g Blues.
Why? I like those switches and how they feel.
-
I'm loving stock clear switches until I get my phantom and then I will be trying out some crazy options.
-
I'd love to hear some opinions from 62g Clear users, I've got 100x coming in the post at the moment and I can't decide whether or not to mod them for my next project.

My thoughts on 62g Clears and other modded clears can be found here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44749.0#post_K).

Typing this on a Ducky with MX Dark Greys.
The other keyboard I've been using at work has Marquardt switches.
I like the heavier switches, started with MX Green before I got tired of the clickiness.
-
Stock reds in my franken-dolch, but sticker, lubed, 55g clears in my poker
-
hmm... so far most of you seem to be fans of heavier switches, interesting...
I personally can't stand stiff switches.
-
62g isn't heavy by far. It's a tad bit heavier than red, blue, or brown springs.

yeah well, I find clears too heavy >.>
maybe I just have girly fingers with no strength.
-
I can't stand Reds or Browns and I didn't even bother reviewing 45g and 55g springs because those are way way way too light for me. I liked 62g springs but I like 65g spring more. But 62g and 65g fall between Reds/Browns/Blues and Black springs. For more indepth info, check out rkinze's amazing Spring Measurement thread (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46449.msg981041#msg981041).
Also your signature is hard to read on Nostalgia phx. Black text on black background :(

That's because clears are heavy. They're one of the heaviest switches, which is why people mod them to lighter weights like 62g.
-
Stock clears - edox
Stock greens - qfr
Stock whites - not in board yet

was thinking to making an ergo clear board
@CPTBadAss

(dont like changes...)

wow nice.
I should try the 62g on brown/clear stem.
how many springs do you get from originative per pack?
-

You do know brown and clear steams are different right?
and I'm thinking ~100 - 110 on the springs, have not received mine yet however

yep yep, clear has a more pronounced tactile feedback. I was planning on doing an ergo clear mod, was thinking maybe the 62g springs would be better since it's slightly heavier than mx light spring...
-
65g clears lubed and stickered.
-
I only own as many keyboards as I do because I wanted to try allllllllllllll the cherry switches...
I mostly stick with 62g clears and 62g blacks, though I like browns as well (though only at home -- work is 100% silenced 55g topre).
I haven't tried 65 or 67g clears, but I'm vaguely interested -- 62g feels a _little_ slow to bounce back (though they're still way nicer than stock clears).
-
Using 80g blues, because I like the heavier feel, more stronger click, since i am using metal keycaps, they are heavier than normal keycaps so they reduce the "real" weight of stock springs.
This setup is the closest I have experienced MX to buckling spring, heavy, tactile and loud!

can post your keyboard dark grey in here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46029.60;topicseen).

what spring? spring stiff 80g like grey or stiff medium like green?
maybe it will be a navy blue, if using a stiff spring 80g (gray) :p
-
Originative 80g.
-
mean ghetto green :-\
originative korean spring like 80g green spring, unfortunately not navt blue :(
-
Yes, ghetto green.
-
All of my boards have clears or blacks (and one 38GT with reds). 62g gold springs and vintage blacks are my favorite. Lubed and stickered, as well.
-
I use modified MX Blues (Jailhouse Blues) with o-rings inside and 45g springs. My absolute favorite, and nothing else comes close. Also 62g ergo-Clears which I'm on the border about--somehow they feel too tough. (Both fully lubricated). I want to try them with stock 60g springs left over from Blues.
I prefer both to common MX switches.
-

Are you referring to the bottom out or the actuation force? The actuation force on blues is around 55g. The bottom out is around 60.
rkinze has a lovely article about this (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46449.0) now. ^__^

Bottoming out, since I compared them to 62g Korean springs. Hence the "stock 60g" from Blues.
Cool article!

65g Clears here.
-
My next board will have 55g whites on them :D
I like stock whites a lot, but they are just a bit heavy for me.

55g whites are EXTREMELY light. I prefer either 62 or 65g much more.
-
I'm using Jailhouse Blues.
Lubed, short throw blues, no click, with a 45gram actuation point.
-
62g blacks, lube'd and sticker'd. The feel can't be beat.
-
I use stock clears and stock blacks, but desperately want to play with different springs in my blacks
need to find my sweet spot before the gh60s drop
-
wow nice.
I should try the 62g on brown/clear stem.

I got 102 in mine.
-
I use Cherry MX Blues for typing and gaming. I don't have any issues with double tapping them, but I know some people have, and it makes sense if you look at how the switch works. I tried reds and blacks, and compared to the blues, it was no contest in my mind.
I really want to try out the green ones, for a much heavier feel.
-
Uncommon...I use 55g silenced topres because I'm cool like that.
-
Blue stem + black spring on my poker at work. Not terribly unusual of a combination, but it is quite satisfying.
-
50g lubed reds, and 45g mx whites
-

Is the click even more subdued on those whites?
-
Right now I use a mix of:
Panda-Clears (Numrow, Shift, Tab, Caps, Enter)
65g-Clears (Index and Middlefinger keys)
62g-Clears (Pinky and Ringfinger keys)
Clears (Ctrl, Alt, Win, Menu, Esc)
Grey (Spacebar) atm.
Aka. The Ergo-Ergo-Clear Board, feels good man!

Currently using linear stems with variable-force springs from brown, yellow and black switches.

Using Greens here. I quite like them, though I guess they're less "uncommon" now that CoolerMaster is mass producing keyboards with them.
-
62g gold Clears only.
-
I'm using MX Greens on a fullsized Ducky, which I like better than MX Blue, which felt far, far too light on my KBTalking keyboard. I have vintage MX Blacks on a G80-2100, which are linear, non-clicky which I did not expect to like, but they're actually really great to type on. The MX Greens were not nearly as "heavy" as they have been made out to be, and the clickiness is great.

My KMAC Mini has 55g blacks. I'm really loving them so far. I don't think I've found a switch I don't like though. I guess I'm just a little too undiscerning!

I plan to try some Originative springs on my next build, similar to yours but a bit lighter and with clicky stems.

Nice! Post some feedback about ya findings...
Probably gonna build a linear version as soon the GH60 PCBs arrive :)
