Title: Pizza
Post by: microsoft windows on Sat, 03 August 2013, 06:33:04
Well, I decided to eat some pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and peppers for breakfast this morning, so I figured that would be a good reason to post a thread about pizza. What is your favorite kind of pizza? Is there a place where you prefer to get pizza? Tell us about it here!

I make my own pizza bases, then put a small amount of tomato sauce on it and completely cover it with German pepperoni. I hate cheese.

I like "everything" on it and generally go for the "house special" whatever that is.

But no chicken, pineapple, broccoli, or other "weird" stuff.

We have a local mom and pop place that has really thin crust and all kinds of crazy toppings and they cut it up in small squares, its the best pizza ever.

The one thing i dislike on Pizza is Italian sausage.

I don't like restaurants...

I feel like there's a sense of resentment in the food.

Restaurants:  where food is made and served by people who hate their jobs..

Even if your wife makes really terrible tasting food, I think it's still better because at least there's a chance she doesn't hate you or her job as wife.

Now, you can argue that the 1 chef who's also owner, is not resentful, but odds are, he doesn't do most of the cooking..

Chicken, pineapple, and broccoli are "weird"?!  I would think weird toppings wouldn't be toppings they serve EVERYWHERE.

BBQ (instead of normal sauce, same normal cheese) and chicken is my favorite right now. A close second is spicy chicken and third goes to mushroom and onion

Pizza frys are also really good

Pizza Pirates in Upland, Ca does a roasted garlic pizza.

Sourdough crust with roasted chicken, minced garlic, roasted whole garlic cloves, onions, bbq sauce (instead of tomato base), mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheese.  This to me is perfection.

Salami + Mild pepperoni and Italian style, can't stand the "think like cake" American style ones!
There is a pizzeria 2min. walk away, not bad, but my fav is a 30min. drive away, worth it...

Jalapeno, Pineapple, and Olive.  Sounds weird, but it's a nice mix of spicy, salty, and sweet.

If I'm making my own pizza, I get the awesome four cheese blend from Trader Joe's and do tomatoe (Roma/Plum), tons of garlic, red onion, green bell pepper, and avocado.  It's awesome and by far my favorite pizza.

Broccoli, spinach, and arugula can also be good on pizza sometimes.

It's arugula here in 'Murica land.

On coriander/cilantro, it's interesting since we call the leaf cilantro and the seed/fruit coriander.

Nearly anything can go on a pizza, because the dough and mozzarella are mostly flavor neutral.

So the argument comes down to if YOU like the topping, rather than what CAN go on the pizza, assuming the pizza is itself JUST the dough and mozzarella.

I've had pizza with peaches that was awesome.  There are plenty of fruit that could go well on a pizza with the right combination.  For example, I'd be willing to bet some of you meat eaters out there would love a prosciutto and melon pizza or an apple, bacon, arugula, and fontina cheese pizza.

Edit:  And pear, gorgonzola, mushroom (not those crappy canned or button mushrooms, but good, fresh wild mushrooms), and a dash of truffle oil would be amazing.

Most of the pizza around here sucks, there's this one place Pagliacci that's OK. Better than the chains, but I think it may also be a chain. I miss the east coast.

Things that are good on pizza - goat cheese, prosciutto, sausage, asparagus, onions, bacon. Not all at once, although maybe.

The best I've ever had had goat cheese, roasted pine nuts, pesto, mozzarella, and chicken.  Don't remember what else was on it since the last time I had it was in 2007.  It was on very thin but firm crust, crunchy around the edges.

pine nuts?  are they softened after they bake it with the zza.. I'd think they're too hard for pizza.

Roasted pine nuts are pretty soft.  They use them a lot on pasta.

Best pizza ever has got to be a thin crust, white sauce pizza with chicken, broccoli, garlic, and a hint of feta cheese.  Best place to get it: Flatbread  Pizza. (http://www.flatbreadcompany.com/FlatbreadHome2010.html)

Oh, and did I mention it's made with 100% organic ingredients?

Had an amazing pizza today with an olive oil base, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and poached pears. So good, but reliant on the artisan hand-stretched crust to really make it. Wouldn't be as tasty on a traditional 'fluffy' crust.

I like Italian style pizza, with thin crust (but not too thin), real marinara sauce and mozzarella. My favourite topping is roasted aubergine (uncommon), but I also like mushrooms and peppers. I once had one that was topped with just marinara sauce, cheese, garlic and capers, which was great.

I like serving it with fresh spinach or roquette on top. I often add some to take-out pizza.
In Sweden, pizza is often served with freshly made sauerkraut ("pizza salad"), which I think is uncommon elsewhere. We don't eat much sauerkraut in Sweden otherwise.
I'm a vegetarian, so I have never tried anchovies.

Grilled aubergine is surprisingly good on pizza. The best pizza I've had apart from the one made by me or mom was in Italy, it had smoked mozzarella, grilled aubergine and spicy salami. So damn good. Not to mention that it's made and served by some of the nicest people I've ever met.
