;-)
Thanks
And take the two pokers off it, they're both totally standard.

There is an increasing number of people who own or are looking into 60% and other mini keyboards with non-standard keys. This makes purchasing keycaps for your board more restrictive so I thought it would be a good idea to catalog all the non-standard keys of various small form factor keyboards such as Filco Minila, Leopold FC660M, KBT Race etc. and create a specification set of supplemental keys.
This would allow you to buy any standard set and a supplemental TMC set to outfit your board. After all, it seems that buying 500 sets of 3 non-standard spacebars would be a lower cost per purchase than 50 sets of 1 non-standard spacebar.Show Image(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EUizSnslCao/Uf_sECxbgfI/AAAAAAAADi8/maTESjPY3Qw/s800/FilcoMinila.png)Show Image(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SE51E293RXo/Uf_sEDPv9aI/AAAAAAAADjA/2VvUdZBR2OM/s800/LeopoldFC660M.png)
Due to restrictions on my time I'll need help figuring out which boards, identifying how many non-standard keys, and how many users there are so if you're a mini layout owner please jump in. Filco Minila for example has 10 non-standard keys (I think) including a 3x sized space and two round top Fn keys. Leopold FC660M has 3. I've created a spreadsheet with keyboards and keyboard owners so we can get an idea of our numbers per model.
So far I have:
Filco Minila
Leopold FC660M
KBT Race
KBT Pure
KBT Pure Pro
Keycool 84
Noppoo Choc Mini
Tex Beetle
This first post is not completely thought out so bare with me.
Interesting project, I think you will end up with a pretty big set by the end. Already at 34.
I understand that, my only concern is that it doesn't shoot to too high a number, that the set becomes too expensive during production.
Not trying to discourage, but bringing up a point to ponder, that maybe once you have your database of all the keyboards, you might look to remove a couple that are not too popular and save the set from not moving forward due to high costs.
From a hi-res picture of the Leopold FC660C, I can tell that the right-Shift is exactly the same length as the left-Shift.
I'm in the process of ordering this board, so when I receive it I'll be able to tell if it's really exactly the same key (maybe the part under the key is different).
If it's really the same key, do you count it as "non-standard"?
And this could apply as well to the FC660M (I have not checked and I don't plan to purchase one anyway).
Have you checked which companies (such as SP) would be willing to do this? I actually have no idea if SP has molds for odd size caps.
Also there might be interest from owners of like a Quick Fire TK or other non-60% boards which use a 6x spacebar.
where did you order the spacebar from? link?
EDIT:
it's not convex like spacebars are?
thanks for sharing. I for one did not know about that (i learn right after the free shipping ends). although, i still wouldn't have gotten it now that i thought about it (i REALLY need the convexness to help me position).
looks damn awesome ;)
So much animation in this mother ffffffkaaaa
i luv me hhkb.
Kind of. See SpaceFn
You're right.
Just a tip; switch to DSA, that will get you everything except convex spacebars and legends.
The poker is wayyuu to popular compared to other 60%s
Added a chart of 3 keyboards. Please correct me if any info is wrong. The Leopold FC660M's space bar in the diagram is 6.25, not 6 units. What is correct?

Thread cleaned up. This is a discussion specifically for gathering factual information about non-standard layouts. If you wish to discuss the merits of standard layouts vs. non-standard, then a separate thread could be made for that topic.
