Hello y'all!
Been surfing around at these forums for a couple of days now and decided it was time for me to join in!
I'm a student of electrical engineering at KTH (Sweden), 2 years to go to recieve my master's degree! Recent (about 3 months now) keyboard "enthusiast" (more of a keyboard noob), still not an owner of any mechanical one BUT on the verge to buy one. Almost ordered the WASD V2 but then KBT Poker and other 60% keyboards caught my eyes..
Currently typing daily on a Lenovo X220 with dome scissors I believe?
Anyway, good to be here! :thumb:

Good to have you here. Can't go wrong with a Poker. Plenty of modding can be done with that. Plate, case etc. I'm betting as an aspiring electrical engineer you will be modding and modding away. I used a poker for about 6 months straight and loved it! Enjoy your stay here. And mind your wallet. Students + geekhack = extra poor.
-
Geekhack + anyone = poor. You just end up spending more and more. :'(
Welcome to the forums. :thumb: for 60% boards.
-
Aw shoot had hoped that I'd at least have some money left after I've built a new PC for school (games actually lol) but modding a keyboard just sounds so tempting!
-
WELCOME TO GEEKHACK
-
THANK YOU MR MICROSOFT!
-
Welcome!
Soon you will discover that you don't have to decide which keyboard you should buy,
but which ones you should sell because you run out of space or money...
-
Lol I so hope that won't happen! Which is why I'm looking for the ultimate, end-game, forever the one and only keyboard for moi! :)

I thought the same 4 years ago...
Now I have a closet full of keyboards and keycaps :3

That doesn't happen. Unless you buy one then leave GH and never return haha. I felt the same way as you when I started less than a year ago and I'm building my 4th keyboard now and have plans to buy at least 3 more... :/

Even if you find it, you can never be sure. People on this forum do a good job of always keeping you curious about other products.
Welcome :D

Gotta have the following:
-60%
-TKL
-Full size
-Topre
-Alps
- Korean Custom
- Numpad
And I suppose to round off the collection you gotta get a Buckling Spring board. Then of course you need to look for a vintage cherry board with your date of birth as a manufacture date. Can't have a complete collection without that.
Then of course things like the Phantom come up and you gotta support those types of projects.
Next thing you know you're up to your neck in keyboards!!!
-
Buh.. I thought the GH60 was the Mother of All Keyboards?!

Buh.. I thought the GH60 was the Mother of All Keyboards?!
The GH60 is a nice option for building a custom 60% board. The Phantom is a nice option for building a custom TKL with multiple layouts to choose from. No one keyboard is "the Mother of All Keyboards" and Thats why you will most likely end up with multiple boards. Unless of course you have insane self control!! But who wouldn't want a separate keyboard for each MX switch type?!! I know I do! And I'm talkin' even the more uncommon types like grey, white, clear, ergo clear, green etc etc.

Gotta.. resist.. uh.. the TEMPTATION!!!!!!!!
But seriously, you are right >.> Now I want a Topre keyboard too, wonder how it feels to type on those..
-
I have yet to type on one myself. The opportunity has not presented itself.
-
Yeah I really fancy the whole THOMP they give, not the ones that are super light but like 45g! Wonder if there are any ISO 60% models of those..
-
I'm gonna go for the HHKB myself.

So Topre really is better on PCB than on plate?

It's all preference. And since I've never tried one, I couldn't say.

How come you chose an HHKB and not a Realforce?

For me it was the layout and the form-factor (I love 60% boards).

Interesting.. Does the Fn button activate arrow keys on the WASD cluster?

But gaming still works on WASD eh?

Yeah, but I prefer to use a linear board for gaming (a Poker with MX Red and Black).

A poker with both MX Red and Black? Modded yourself?

Yeah, did some spring swapping...
My gaming Poker:
Dark-Grey (Spacebar)
Blacks (Ctrl, Alt, Win, Menu, Esc)
Reds (On all other keys remaining)
My typing Poker:
Panda-Clears (Numrow, Shift, Tab, Caps, Enter)
65g-Clears (Index and Middlefinger keys)
62g-Clears (Pinky and Ringfinger keys)
Clears (Ctrl, Alt, Win, Menu, Esc)
Grey (Spacebar)
I plan to do a "finer stepped" linear GH60 (Red / Black / Clear / Grey / 50g / 62g / 65g springs)
Also another Ergo Clear variation (Only 3 steps -> 65g / Black / Clear springs and Grey for space)

Welcome, fellow Stockholmare! KTH eh.. D-linjen? (Is it still around?)

Not a big fan of linear keyboards eh? :P But those mods do sound awesome!
Do black and red switches use the same stem?

Thanks man! Actually, E-linjen ;) D is still around yeah, more programmer oriented than E which is more electrical hardware oriented :)

The stems are identical except for color...

Because not only is it Topre, it's also a layout I do not own as it is, so it fits my criteria for wanting a keyboard of each type quite nicely.

A keyboard of each type? You're collecting as many layouts as possibru?

Heh I take it there ain't many Stockholm-keyboard enthusiasts here eh? But thanks, great community!
