I'm planning to build my first mechanical keyboard BUT have a major problem in choosing a good Cherry MX switch! I've tried keyboards with Blues (okayish, too loud clicketiclack though and perhaps a little bit too light for me), Brown (bleh!), Black (only tried arrow keys for ten seconds - feels nice but all the negativity against them has affected me somehow) and Red (quite good, but maybe a bit too light since I did a lot of typing mistakes while typing).
I've also purchased the Sampler Kit offered by WASD Keyboards which included an MX Clear switch and mounted them on a piece of bamboo to "imitate" a feel of a keyboard but they still don't tell me much.
I also read somewhere about MX Whites and what a soft click they got. I do like clicks but not as pronounced as they are in Blues but these seem to be nowhere to be found?
So what do you guys think?
I should also note that I'm planning on getting a 60% keyboard with plate and metallic case (never tried it but since most of you guys love it it must be good! :thumb:).

Do your own research and make your own opinions. You're the only one that will type on the board for 90% of its life. If you end up liking Blacks or like an acrylic case instead, don't let other's influence you. This thread (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44165.0) might help you out. ^__^

My impressions of MX Whites can be found here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45459.msg951251#msg951251). I love them. But they are hard to find. I managed to get my Pure at MechanicalKeyboards.com and get in one of the few GBs that offered Whites. You can always try the 7bit buy at Deskthority.
And welcome to GH! Enjoy your stay ^__^

Aye that's true indeed! Problem is I'm located in Sweden and the stores here only offer keyboards from brands such as Logitech, Steelseries and Razor which (from what I've seen) only have plastic casings, which in turn leaves me to depend on peoples' reviews here online  But I'll have another go tomorrow after work on the black switches and see if I can make up my mind!
Oo and that is some great stuff you linked me! Thanks a lot!

If you're in SWE, maybe there's a Deskthority meet up or tour you can join so you can find out what you like? Sort of like the switch tour in my signature but for the EU.
-
Yeah I was thinking of it but I haven't found any so far, but I'll keep my eyes open for 'em!
-
You will buy all switch colors anyway, so any color is good for a start.
-
Wha? Why will I buy 'em all?? :O
-
It's the GeekHack way. We buy all the boards.

Oh holy Keycaps.. So now that I've joined geekhack I have signed a sacred, invisible oath in buying all keyboards there is to buy, spending billions of dollars during the whole course of my life only to eventually die under the crushing force of the total mass of all the acquired keyboards over the years? :'(
-
I also just joined, and I feel the pressure too, friend!! :-[ I'm going to be poor for the rest of my life!!!
-
There are a few more GHers in Sweden now - time for a meetup?
Everyone could bring a keyboard or two so you can try different switches :)

Interesting.. But if they're spread out through the country it'd be tough to meet up! :P
