First thing you should consider, get a laptop + a keyboard. If you got something small such as a 60% then you wouldnt have to worry about space too much? Then you could get whatever laptop you want?

Bumping this thread continually is not going to get you an answer, if anything it will get it ignored.

Most modern laptop keyboards are mostly the same, many people used to prefer ibm's.

I'd say a lenovo, because although its keycaps are chiclet like on every other new laptop, they're at least cylindrical. In the end, it doesn't really matter though. The keyboard will be worn out in a matter of months, and you can always carry an external one with you. Even 75% keyboards aren't bigger than 12" laptops.

I'D RECOMMEND A LENOVO THINKPAD WITH THE CLASSIC SCISSOR SWITCH KEYBOARDS, IF THEY STILL MAKE THEM. WHILE THEY AREN'T QUITE AS GOOD AND SATISFYING AS A CONVENTIONAL FULL-SIZED KEYBOARD, THEY'LL HOLD UP FOR A LONG TIME AND FUNCTION WELL. THE THINKPADS ALSO COME WITH TRACKPOINTS, WHICH I'VE HAD BETTER LUCK WITH THAN THE TOUCH-PADS.

WORST COMES TO WORST, YOU CAN ALWAYS GET A CHEAPER LAPTOP LIKE AN ASUS OR SOMETHING, AND USE THE EXTRA CASH TO GET AN EXTERNAL KEYBOARD AND MOUSE TO CARRY AROUND WITH IT. THAT MIGHT BE THE BEST IDEA.

It has ALPS, not rubber domes IIRC. Nothing really for ya.

OH, I'VE HAD SOME ALPS KEYBOARDS BEFORE. THE ALPS SWITCHES HAVE GOOD FEEL TO THEM, BUT I'VE FOUND THEY TEND TO WEAR OUT AFTER A WHILE.

ONE OF MY ALPS KEYBOARDS EVEN HAD A BUILT IN CALCULATOR IN IT. I'LL HAVE TO SEE IF I CAN FIND ANOTHER ONE--IT WAS A REAL NEAT BOARD. HAD DIAGONAL ARROWS AND A "TURBO" KEY ON IT.

I was looking for the same thing. Personally, I gave up. The trade off to get a good keyboard was too big. So now I own and Asus with a chiclet style keyboard. The good thing is that the keyboard is super-quiet, which is nice because I type a lot in public places. Even in the train, a lot of rapid typing attracts a lot of attention.

It is alright if you get used to it. And my girlfriend has no trouble typing about 100wpm on it (faster than me on my mechanical keyboards mind you).

While not the newest, a Thinkpad T410 or T420 should do, as neither have chicklet keyboards and are far better than HP or any other chicklet keyboard, even if they aren't as good as a Thinkpad 755. They are both Core i5 or Core i7, DDR3 ram, SATA hard drive, etc and can be found fairly cheap.

I like the keyboard on my HP dv6, chicklet, and been using it heavily for the past 2 years, no flex.

There really isn't a laptop with good GFX for $1000...  anything for $1000 will have at best the equivalent of a ati 7770 desktop graphics..

Which is PRETTY darn weak for modern games, even @ low resolution.

I recommend you buy a used macbook to impress the ladies at the library.

And then save some more money and spend around $1500 on a desktop gaming PC with a 780gtx

I personally love the keyboards on the new Asus laptops. They work well for mobile gaming, atleast for me.

My 2¢, I have a MSI GT60 with a Steelseries keyboard and it is actually wonderful typing on it. I can type >130 on my laptop while only right at 130 on a MX Blue, but it is more fatiguing. The keys are rather heavy but they provide good feedback and sound really nice. Kind of like an MX Brown's sound; I've heard it and the sound is similar because the keycaps are thick and textured, but I haven't tried it for feeling.
