Title: Crosspost from DT: prototype vertical cherry keyboard

I figure this might be of interest to the GH ergo-board, so im cross-linking my post over at deskthority.

Fantastic find Ascaii.

It's interesting how this prototype looks far more ergonomic than the safetype that it 'inspired'.  The keys for the thumbs on the front look good.  The safetype has the number pad in the middle - which is frankly stupid.

I guess it must be cheaper to create a prototype with cherry switches, than it is to use rubber domes.

Is that a space key between the right vertical group and the numpad?  I'm guessing that it's designed to be hit with the back of the hand?

The "backhand" key is actually return.

This looks great. Any additional pictures maybe?

I try not to post links between the two sites - but this time it seems justified.

They done goofed.

You can't have a board that's completely verticle and so close together,

The reason is your hands do not sit so close together naturally.

Well if you check the board it really looks like you would use this both hands vertical and typing from the sides. Downside i see isn't hands not resting properly but more like my keys are limited to single hands. Cause let's say i have to click "A" with my right hand for some reason i have to do a very akward move.

But i think there's a lot of potential. It's incredibly compact and Ergo if you learn how to use properly i guess.

Man that looks really cool. I think that the spacing is a bit too close but I like that design more than a lot of the current ergo-boards. I think non-staggered would work better vertically. Wish I could test that theory...someone get a prototype! :P

If i can get my hands on one, willing to trade for Ultimate Switch Tester for a week or two?

If you look at the yogitype, you'll find one half is non staggered.  Sordna has experimented with a pair of vertically mounted kinesis advantages and found it to be quite comfortable.  The safetype is staggered and it just doesn't feel right.

I keep meaning to lash a couple of pos boards together.

I am hoping to take some video footage of typing on it in a bit...currently im too busy. I was surprised how comfortable it felt when I took positions...with wrist rests it would definitely be super comfortable and would get rid of any twisting of the wrists.

I keep wondering how comfortable it could be to mount a datahand in this fashion...the halves vertical and back to back (with a spacer)...perhaps in a V shape opening towards the user. But, I dont have a datahand, so i guess i will never know.
