Title: I'm having this problem.
Post by: CalmB4tehPwn on Tue, 13 August 2013, 05:05:35
I like to scroll GH as it gets dark, and I'm just not a huge fan of artificial light (Read: I loves the darkness), and so my eyes adjust to the black and orange, which is great, until I change tabs to check my email, or facebook (who knows what I'm doing there) and I'm immediately BLINDED by the white backgrounds, which of course sends me to change tabs back immediately.

Was that the plan? Have our eyes adjust to GH, so we could never view another site?

Change the theme, there are other options that are much easier on the eyes :)

No, that's the problem. Black and orange is TOO EASY on my eyes, so I get blinded when I tab away.

Ah right, the other themes are still much closer to other websites though so you should still be better off. I'm using Austere.

This is wrong. I'm changing it back.

I feel dirty.

I have an app called Nocturne on the Mac.  Basically it disables the wallpaper, converts everything to black & white and inverts the screen, so the majority of web pages and other apps appear as white on black text.  I use that first thing in the morning to check emails and a few news sites, then switch to day mode (normal colours) and browse GH with Nostalgia theme.  That works about 90% of the time.

You on a tablet or PC? Ipad's have a colour-inverted mode, there is probably a PC equivalent, makes all the whites black, pretty useful.

This community, guys. I swear.

I come on trying to take advantage of an opportunity to talk about how much GH is better than anyplace else on the internet, and you decide to solve my problem.

It wasn't really a problem. My problem is that at night, I can't go anywhere but GH, and I think I'm okay with that.

I've been using the white theme for GH since we could change it. Not sure why, just thought it looked much more bold and sophisticated than the dark theme.

EDIT: Just switched to Nostalgia and instantly felt eye relief. Thank you sir.

Ever tried f.lux (http://justgetflux.com/)?  You could probably turn it to really dark and be good on any site, even GeekHack with a non-black theme.  I'd give it a try and see if it helps.   :thumb:

Use COLOR TOGGLE on Firefox.

It can replace all the colors on the page.

Everything on my screen is grey text on black background

this is on every page
