I'm somewhat surprised you went with Blacks. How does it feel switching from browns?
Please flip a keycap.
Thanks.
Nice review, I'm looking to buy the keycool 84 or the choc mini and I just can't decide. Since you've used the choc for a while now, can you do a thorough comparison between them if you have the time? That would be most welcomed! :D
Yes. That's it. Thank you.
Don't be sorry about the blacks, just get some o-rings and they're going to be much better than reds.
They seem a bit hard but it's because of their insanely long stroke (as in any other MX).
Coincidentally, I'd gotten a Keycool 84 LED Cherry Black about a week or so back, am so liking it! Excellent build quality and pretty damn hard to find in my neck of the woods.....brand-wise, even more so <TKL keyboards. That's why, I'd snagged it w/o a moment's thought since I was in the market for suck keyboards. Anyway, hope you don't mind my sharing the Ketycool love with a couple of pics-
The LED model I have has white LED for all the main keys (it's not as bright as Ducky Shine KBs, its brightest is akin to Ducky's medium), a few special function keys are have Green LEDs.Show Image(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/mikeysg/20130808_152609_zps94b616a5.jpg)
Noticed that it was a tad dusty, it was a display set, thus I'd gotten it at a discount, so I removed the keycaps and gave it a thorough cleaning...Show Image(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/mikeysg/20130808_224141_zps6cad56cf.jpg)
BTW, did yours come with some novelty key caps? I was surprised mine came with these....Show Image(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/mikeysg/20130808_233215_zps16b4da9d.jpg)
Good review - I just ordered mine with MX blue ~ looking forward to receiving it.
Oh? What isn't working? I just tried out the media keys on mine, works with VLC player......I guess more so with WMP since it's the default media player. I'd once crapped about another KB I'd gotten, complaining that the LED did not work......my very first MKB, a Storm Trigger, turns out I'd not enabled backlight by pressing Fn/Storm + F1. What could I say, 'twas my very first mech....
Oh awesome, you wont be disappointed! Although I'm having a few problems at the moment, my media keys don't seem to be working at the moment which is a little bit on the annoying side, so yeah.

Oops, I had a memory that you were coming from something light, so it was red.
You may need to RMA that unit, mine's working......although the volume up and down function doesn't seem to work, mute does though. Stop, pause and play work.....
Thank you "Fragil1ty" I did not expect such an honest in-dept comparison, god this community is awesome :D
Considering everything, I will go with the white keycool 84 with red switches from qtan which is about 94$ shipping included, noppoo's are really hard to find theses days and they cost practically the same (even more, don't know where you bought your choc for 70$).
As switches go, I have only used mx-blues on a razer blackwidow and they were cool coming from a membrane contraption but, I kinda had trouble typing on them, sometimes they were unresponsive or sometimes it felt like they were doing stuff on their own (bad at explaining :p), so I decided against tactile feedback switches. Moreover a lot of people say that going from blues to reds is a magical thing which I am so ready to enjoy. :D
Keycapwise I think I would love the PBT texture coming from the cheap ABS on the blackwidow and if not, I can always change them considering keycool's compatibility.
Thank you again for taking your time making this awesome review, I hope it'll help others as it's helped me !
Happy typing!!

I mean, the F1 - F12 keys work, they just don't work when I'm using them with the FN function, if I press F1 in a browser for example, I'll get the help window or f3 for the search window and so on.
I would RMA it, but it'd take 3 weeks to get there, 3 weeks to get back, it's just an awful lot of hassle.
I don't know about that, but I did tell the local distributer that he should be focusing on <TKL KB's, there seem to be great interest in such KB's. When I'd posted pics of my 84 LED, I'd gotten some enquiries as to where I had gotten it....Keycool seems to be a brand that these keyboard enthusiasts seem to acce[pt and want. I certainly like mine, it's now my daily driver for my 2nd rig,
They're just amazing keyboards aren't they? I think Keycool are going to take Noppoos place to be honest and become the next go to 84 keyboard, in my opinion.

Could you please post a picture of the space bar's bottom? I have read the space bar fits the FC660M, is there a way you can confirm it? Thank you...

Its regular 6.25x
I know its size is standard 6.25x, but I wonder if it has two sets of stems. The standard pair should be 100 mm center to center, and I would like to know it the closest ones are 85 mm. Thank you again.

there are two locations for the stab stems, they are the same as the kc87's
in jdcarpe's review thread there are pics
Great review Fragility!
Quick question: what keycap sets do you need to get for this kind of layout? I've heard a TKL set + tsangan is enough. Is this true?

I'm not entirely sure, but me personally, I just buy:
I just go here: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keycap-set/87-key-cherry-mx-keycap-set.html#ad-image-0 and customise the keys to my liking!
I'm currently in the process of getting some of these keys send to me, the bad part is though that some of the keys will not fit on the keycool, the right alt, fn and ctrl keys, so you'll have to do some work around and what not, so yeah.
Where can I order the same reviewed keyboard from?
I'd like to buy exactly the same!
Thanks in advance!
I got my white KC84 with MX Clear and PBT caps last week. I purchased from xuanwumen and it took about 3 weeks to arrive via China Post Air. I fell in love with small form factor keyboard after I got my KBT Pur Pro. It is great for gaming, because I can bring my hands closer. However, I sometimes need to use F keys during gaming session and Pure Pro falls short on that. KC84 fixes that problem. It has pretty much everything I need and it is my daily driver.iirc, there's something in the bios that you can adjust to turn numlock off by default when your PC boots.
The good stuff:
1. MX Clear is more tactile, whereas brown felt more like a linear switch to me.
2. PBT key caps has more aggressive texture than the PBT caps on my Pure Pro.
3. It comes with a plastic holder to secure the USB cable.
4. Key legends are laser etched, which I prefer more than laser engraved.
The not necessarily bad stuff, depends on how picky you are:
1. the legends on the caps are not aligned.
2. PBT caps are not as thick as the PBT caps on my Pure Pro.
For the KC84 owners here, I have a question for you. I connect my board to my PC via USB. Every time I turns on the computer, the num lock key is always lit. This means if I type "JKL", it will turn into "456". This is quite annoying. I know there is no dip switch on KC84. Is there a way to disable that function?

I'm very much interested in the KC 84 however I'm looking for cherry blues and it seems that reds, blacks, and clears are the easiest to find. I'm typing on reds now and they feel too light to me, of course they are fun to game on :) How are the clears compared to the blues? I have no interested in being quiet when I type! I'm started to wonder if I'm going to be forced to buy something likeFriend of mine ordered one, but got a reply saying they don't have any MX Blues in stock and cancelled his order :(.

However it is tempting just to hold off if I can find a deal on a non-led for 60$ nice find! I really like the idea of non-media shortcut keys like calculator and browser etc, and the fact it's a little smaller then tkl is interesting too. Thoughts?
