Hello all! I've been lurking for a bit. I decided I'd come out of the shadows and join in on the discussions.

I've noticed that the Steelseries 7g somewhat resembles the Filco keyboards of the same size.
My suspicions are echoed here:

The 7g 'appears' to be made from the same frame with a few external modifications and functional differences.
Armed with this, I wanted to see if Steelseries may have used the same tactic for 6g I am currently typing on.
While perusing http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=240466&page=3 (Note the HHKB Pro at the bottom of the page :) ), I came across a post on page 23 for a company called TheJaki. A quick check of their website, http://www.thejaki.com, revealed they have two models of keyboards.
The first model JD001 is the one that caught my eye. It bears a striking resemblance to the Steelseries 6g. A quick google (image) search brought me these fruits.

Appearance Similarities:
Overall shapes of both keyboards appear to be very close.
-curvature of the edges
-the bottom area around the wrist
-key layout
-spacing between key 'areas'
-font used on keycaps ( could be very common for many keyboards though )
Appearance Differences:
-6g has small 'walls' on the edges on each end of the keyboard (along ~,tab,caps,shift,ctrl on the left side and -,+,Enter on the other side)
-JD001 has no such walls
-size and location of LED windows for NUM/CAPS/SCROLL appear to be different
Functional differences:
The 6g uses Cherry MX black linear switches and the JD001 appears to use the BLUES!
Further information on the JD001 isn't available to me as most of the links found during my searches were Korean or Japanese.
This search mostly came about because I was a bit disappointed when my 6g arrived. Most of the online reviews I had read raved about its 'build' quality. Suffice to say, it is not as sturdily and well built as my IBM Model M. Then again, what keyboard is?
It's also a byproduct of my curiosity about what is really being used or where things really came from. The rackets used by professional Tennis players being a prime example. I could go on for ages about how many pictures I pored over trying to figure out what racket Roger Federer was using at different stages in his career and how they related to the product offerings by Wilson. Or how many pros used different rackets but had them made with a different layup or 'paint job' to look like a current company offering. But I digress!
Regarding the keyboards, I could be wrong and the keyboards are actually totally different. Or perhaps, Steelseries created the original mold.
Anyhoo. Any thoughts? Is this something you may have noted with another keyboard? Anyone have a Jazzykit keyboard?

I love how these people consider "boring" to be a drawback. If I'm thinking about my keyboard when I'm working on it (instead of, you know... working), that's a problem, not something to show off.

Interesting. I have both the 7G and the Filco. While no one can deny that both boards look alike , I wouldn't say they have the same frame but they both have a solid build quality.
The 7G sounds less "hollow" when the keys bottom out than the filco. The 7G also feels slightly heavier as well, but not by much, an the case feels more solid than the filco (The plastics feels like it's thicker).

Heck I'm already agonizing over not having a Realforce86 yet. I'm even tempted to get a Filco Tenkeyless just for the other PC and just for the sake of having one :)

It's worth the money, trust me. I just switches my setup around and I wired it in permanently. That's saying a lot if you're me.

Permanently? What'd do? Solder it directly to your macbook's logic board? :)
It would be nice to see all keyboards go to a detachable USB cable. That way you could easily swap 'boards.

iMav: Knowing xsphat's history on here, my guess is he also has the desoldering bulb at the ready for when the next keyboard comes along. ;)
