Title: How BAD would a wireless game server be.
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 19 August 2013, 13:37:16
Bandwidth is not a problem, and I could prioritize its traffic on the router.

There is also "NO" interference where I live on the 5ghz band. large distance between houses

Has anyone tried this.. is it terribad, or " mildly acceptable"..

I have a laptop that' I'd like to use as a game server, but it may have to be in other places from time to time, so it can't be wired "all the time"

I think it would depend on the game.

I think it mainly depends on the router and the laptops NIC...
If you can get a steady transfer without bandwidth drops you should be fine.

Just make sure to overclock your keyboard to make up for any sort of lag encountered.

nah man, you have to overclock your NIC to ensure all your packets get there fast enough

Tested it..

Turns out... 10 - 45ms increase on the client end..  this in the same house.
