i am sure this has been covered somewhere, but is the stealth that much of an improvement over the rapid?
i see the stealth has a metal plate supposedly to add more weight, but the manuf site says they both still weigh in at 940 grams.....
i see there and here a lot of problems with switches dying on these things, more so for the older rapids and a few on the stealths...........?
there both abs, so what am i missing for paying the increased price for a stealth? we all swap the caps anyway......
thinking about indulging on a mx red-- does the stealth have a red back plate/pcb as the rapid?
-
they're identical with the exception of the keycaps and 'metal-backplate-color". (http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/tuzki-bunnys/tuzki-bunny-emoticon-021.gif)

I have one of each (QFR with blues, QFS with greens). As far as I know, the only real difference is in the side printed caps on the Stealth.

no issues with the switches acting up................?
-
the switches in general are all very durable and can last forever. a broken switch is very rare, and can be easily fixed through soldering.
-
I'm not sure if they are completely identical. Doesn't the stealth have an option for key repeat that the qfr doesn't?
-
I can't confirm this, but I was told from another user on here that the QFR and the QFS use different PCB's
I have both, and aside from the astetics, they are the same.
( though there is a common bad soldering job on one of the switches, mine needed to be resoldered to fix )
but I don't think its a very common issue that it needs to be taken apart to be fixed.

QFR:
6KRO over USB
No Adjustable Repeat Rate
Stealth:
12KRO over USB
Adjustable Repeat Rate
Side printed keycaps
As for issues: QFR suffered one bad batch that affected the Left Alt cluster. The very first batch of Stealth (Brown) suffered a slight imperfection around the backspace cluster. All issues have been resolved and an entirely new PCB has been implemented in both.

that will work.........
thanks

Looks like the vendor chimed in with the differences between the two models. I have a QFS with greens, and I really like the board in general and the green switches in particular. I regard it as a quality product, just as suitable for the office as for gaming.

awesome site
thanks guys

CM is a genius for charging people like $50 more for poor quality side printed caps on the same keyboard.

I suspect you're just trolling, but when I checked CM's web site they were the same price or $5 difference depending on the switches. The caps they use aren't the best, but if compromises need to be made to keep costs down, that's where I prefer they do it. Most people won't care, and those that do are probably already planning on replacing them.

well the qfr goes on sale for like $45 (us) and $35 (can)
and at stores the qfr is still cheaper than the stealth.

I tend to agree. Enthusiasts want to change their keycaps. Moreover, assuming that "stealth" or "ninja" are minority options, it would cost more per unit to produce keyboards with side-printed keycaps. I am not wild about the font that CM used, and if I stay with the stealth look, I might switch the caps from those I took off my Filco MJ2 Ninja TKL board until I can afford a good dye-sub PBT set.
I paid a premium price for my QFS in order to get Cherry mx green switches, but it was worth it, both for the board and for the switches. The keyboard is premium quality and the green switches are a joy for typing. My typing speed and accuracy are better on the QFS than any other board I have used except my IBM Model M and IBM SSK.

QFS is the newer model, and so more in demand and hence less discounted. Shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. What is more important to me is that I got a great quality board for much less than the other comparable quality brand alternatives.
Totally agree about the QFS being suitable to the office--I am using mine at work, in fact. I love the smooth feel of the caps.
