Currently this is my kit. Most of my stuff is still in my buddies pool (it's empty. That's where we jammed and it sounded horrible) I have another rack tom but I'm a big fan if this set up.

Right now I'm getting my toms fitted with Renaissance Ambassador on top, Renaissance Diplomat on the bottom. Will be picking up some Renaissance Powerstroke 3 for this kick drum. Eventually, I need to swap out my snare's resonant head with a Ren. Snare Side. I love the Renaissance heads, if you can't tell.

I've also had good luck with Evans genera heads on my toms, and an Evans Hydraulic head on the snare batter. I got a wicked TR-909-esque kick sound with an Evans EQ1 and EQ4 combo. Loved the hell out of that.

I'll post a setup of my "normal" set once I get that configured again. This setup pictured above is specifically for experimental and learning use. :D

For everything else there's Emperor Coated. Some Evans are ok; I really like their dry head with the pinholes in it. I'm playing Evans kick drum heads right now; the mufflers are nice and keep the drum real loud while allowing me to be ridiculously lazy with my tuning. thumpy.

I've heard they're the best god damn things ever for jazz drumming, but I cannot confirm this myself.

sounds great dude! i am envious of people who can structure songs so well. do you ever play your music live with other people?


here's something i forgot was online http://pleas.bandcamp.com - it's one layer of a 3 guitar part i've been working on for a while, played through a loop pedal, then i sat down at the drums and banged out a couple of rhythms. the other collection of songs is older, i DI'd a guitar and used an amp modeller, then did the drums in reason.
also did this the other day http://nvsbl.org/etc/audio/intro.mp3 ; not drumming but sort of percussive. i took a pair of scissors and used them as a bow on my guitar strings, then tapped out the lower notes using the handle of the scissors.

loop pedals are fun -_-

I need a good loop pedal. I dig the sounds you had goin on that first link. I have always wanted to make pure instrumental music as a side project. I think music without words really gets to me in a positive way and is so open to interpretation. I have been in several bands where I live as a bass player/vocalist but the first one called The Richards split cuz everyone moved away for school (which broke my heart cuz I firmly believe that band would have went places. Maybe not fame but at least a tour or something) The second band "Caramel Tiger" split because the other two members started getting into hip hop which I wrote chorus' for at first but then they found Jesus and started doing "holy hip hop" which was a serious conflict of interest with me. We remain friends but I can't collaborate with them on songs that are ALL about The Lord. So I figure my best bet is to just do all the writing, playing and recording myself and when I have a decent set list I will hopefully find a band willing to back me up live.

Oh damn. Haven't played in 2 years, but at that point I'd been playing for 14 years. Currently itching to get back into it, I've got a nearly complete Tama RockStart (O.G.), just need cymbals, snare, and throne.

played a show on friday, last show with our current (er... now former) vocalist. hour long set... we usually play 20-30 minute sets. that's the last time i play for that long for at least a year... hopefully longer.
witness me smoking a ton of weed and playing drums.

So where do I download this stuff?  Soundcloud is cool and all, but I'd like to be able to listen to this in my regular listening environment.  Or is that something you choose to disallow?  Regardless, it's quite good!

Hoff and Vun. Thanks for listening I just added the song "gonna take time" yesterday to the soundcloud. I have chosen to make it only available to listen to on soundcloud because (and I know it's selfish) but I want the foot traffic on that site and my numbers to go up. Also I consider these songs incomplete as far as mixing, mastering and even some instrument/vocal parts are not it there. So I'm using soundcloud as a demo area.

Fair enough.  It's your music so you have control here.  I will just say that it will stay fresher in my mind if I have it locally included in my new music playlist and I'll be much more likely to remember to check back if that's the case.  But again, your music your decision.  Just offering my opinion regarding my listening style and my propensity to completely forget.

Again, great stuff, keep up the good work.  I look forward to seeing what you do in the future.  :)

Yeah, all up to you how you do it, but I generally don't use online services for music so unless this thread keeps popping up I'll probably end up forgetting about it.

Or, in other words; get cracking on an album.

I can only speak for myself, but if you put them up on bandcamp or whatever(not very familiar with music distribution) for a few dollars I'd easily pay that. I guess a musician is never fully satisfied with what he creates. That's probably why they have people to tell them when enough is enough (producers, labels etc.) I guess through my eyes, doing every part of it myself, done never feels quite done. I appreciate the fact that you guys deem my music "purchasable" as is and that's a major compliment for me so thank you. Share the link if you can for now. I'll look into making these songs available. Cheers
