ok, in a similar vein to the desk/setups vein, this thread is specifically about your input peripherals. what combination keyboard/mouse do you use? do you use a mat or a pad of any kind? what about a numpad? let's see how you interface with the matrix.

here's my work setup: HHKB (Pro1 instead of Pro2 because I am a professional first and formost, not a professional, too) and razer abyssus from which i gutted the LED. no frills for me. i have a numpad too but i don't use it much. i wish i could get a beige abyssus...

Also Filco wrist rest; fUnc Industries mouse pad.

Work setup is also a HHKB but with a Slimblade for pointing.

Yes :) My girlfriend made me this as a present :) It's filled with rice which has a nice feel to it and makes the wrist rest more adjustable :) And when I am annoyed at work I can use it as a weapon :P

Trackball is for the 90" of screen real estate. Perf MX is for precision (and sometimes I just wanna mouse, damnit).

Isn't the whole point of an ErgoDox to be ergonomic with hand position? What is the difference between typing like that and typing on a regular keyboard? Or did you just line them up like that for the picture?

That is actually the most comfortable position for me for the ErgoDox. Had an entire conversation about it in another thread. There's still plenty of benefits left over though

Currently experimenting with the layout of my eDox and various other devices so a potato is all you'll get for now. Proper pics coming when I've found a good set-up and sorted out a bit of cable mess.

edit: for gaming I move stuff around to free up more mouse space, deskmat is really amazing

How's that Goliathus pad?  I've been looking for an XXL pad most of today, actually.

It's great, I have both speed and control and they both feel well made and the anti-fray stitching is genius. Neither has seen all that much use yet so I can't say all that much about actual durability yet, but they both feel like they're higher quality compared to my QcK Heavy.

My only gripes are that I'd like it a bit taller/deeper/whatever you wanna call it, although it hasn't been an actual problem for me yet, and it'd be nice to get it without branding. That said, if you have a Razer mouse with green LEDs on the pad they do look good together. (http://i.imgur.com/EoV5Top.jpg?1)

Coming from a QcK and a 4HD, the Shiden is by far my favorite mouse pad, my mouse glides so effortlessly.  My only issues are that it's not completely liquid resistant and the white color makes it susceptible to staining.  Still haven't tried any of their cloth mouse pads yet.

This is my work setup. The first pic is what I see every day, including while I'm on the IRC  :)

Made use of a couple of cardboard boxes in the drawer of my parson's desk, in order to achieve the perfect keyboard to mouse to chair ratio. (the setup is also aided by perfectly adjusted wrist rests... I'm very meticulous about the chair I use every day.)

The extra keyboard / mouse is for the 55inch behind my laptop, which I QA (the InFocus Mondopad) among other things.

My hands are actually big enough that I can just reach over and use the six pack with my thumb! This truly is the perfect setup for me, even better than my home situation.

Lol... I have so many things to say to that... In the end, you are absolutely correct. But it sure is a nice Windows PC, and Microsoft Office has pretty good file encryption on its own  :D

Outside of reviewing it's security/design for enterprise use -- I'm all about it.  The touch sensitivity on that massive display is really well done. 

The review unit we had came preloaded with Angry Birds -- something about playing that on a massive touch screen was rewarding.

Lol, yeah, I was itching for a new keyboard for as long as I had it, but as soon as I got a "better" one, turns out Black ALPS were my favorite all along, so it'll probably be looking awesome there for a long time to come.

Max Keyboard Nighthawk X8 with Browns and Blue LED.  Basically a Ducky with no DIP switches, no reactive mode, and a different case.  Hell, I ordered a Ducky, and it was a Max out of the box.  Huh.
My current mouse is a CM Storm Xornet, which I got on sale and rebate for $5.  It's really comfy, and if I can ever find a Spawn for just a little more, I'm switching to that.
My mousepad is a Razer Vespula, and although it was kinda expensive, I really enjoy it.  I don't flip surfaces too much, but I do like a harder mousepad, and the gel wristrest is awesome.

Can't you just get a new receiver?

i emailed logitech and they said they no longer supply parts for it and i refuse to pay ebay prices for it. 
EDIT: and on top of the receiver, i'm sure i need new batteries too.  Its really not worth it to get it working.

Yep. The scroll wheel is fine, but pressing the wheel sucks. Had to change the +dpi to middle click.

They're fairly similar, except this thread is for keyboard and pointing device layout only. Monitors, desk, speakers etc. are all irrelevant in this thread, and while both threads could easily have been kept to a single thread, they're different enough that I can't say I mind having a separate thread for it.

Pretty much, but GH is full of collectors and consumers, and if there's one thing people who buy lots of stuff like to do it's to show off their stuff. Even people who don't buy lots of stuff like to show off what they do in general, which is why we have "post your something" in like every forum.

I sometimes use the CMStorm one, but the mouse I use atm is wireless so the gf has the bungee. It's not very pretty, though, so I'm tempted to get the original mouse bungee or the better looking, but overpriced, razer remake of it.

I had the Razer one before I got the original I'm using now and it's pretty bad IMO;
- it has no weight to it and uses a sticky surface on the bottom to keep it secure, only this wears off after a month or too, which means you end up simply dragging it around your desk.
- the other problem is that it won't work with corded cables because it's slots are too thin and only really work with Razer mice due to how thin the cable has to be
- it's also more than double the price of the original

Allsop Wrist Assist or something like that. They have pads like a mouse, hence you can slide with them around. It isn't the best thing for stability, but you can use them and still refrain from bending your wrists.

Yeah, that is easily the most elegant edox I've seen so far.
I might see if I can get something like that made for mine, anyone know where I can find drawings/measurements of the case layers?

thanks, rowdy and vun. The choice of materials and paint colors was actually picked and built around complementing the DSA retro set - an effort to 'theme', if you will.

@vun, if you want, I can direct you to where I got mine done, but keep in mind that the wood arrives raw and unfinished, and is limited to birch, which isn't the easiest to work with. You'll have to sand, stain, and finish the wood by hand (and very carefully, since the layers aren't very thick, and doesn't allow for a large margin of error). Mine wasn't perfectly done as this was my first time finishing wood - but the imperfections are small enough that it doesn't bother me, and only really shows up under close scrutiny.

The dxf files can be found on the ergodox website.

Layer thickness would be.
1/8"
3/16"
3/16" <--- mounting plate
3/16"
1/8"

I only got the tops and bottoms redone. Wouldn't recommend using wood for the rest of the middle plates as you'd have to sand them down - which could be tricky as you need a certain clearance for the layers.

Thanks, I've got relatives working at a furniture manufacturer, one of them does a lot of the cnc work, so I'll just have to show him the files and ask if it's possible on their machines, as what they usually do is quite a bit larger. With the materials they use I'll probably only have to make sure the sides are ok, so finishing won't really be much of an issue.

the top keyboard isnt intended for long term usage but its good if i want to type something quick on my home rig without switching over keyboard from work computer. Also prevents me from typing something on my work computer that was intended for the home computer ;)

I use a 103UB 55G uniform and either a Zowie EC2 or a Zowie FK, depending on the game I'm playing.  Use a really old QcK+ as a large wrist wrest for my keyboard - works really well but looks pretty awful.  Use a Artisan Hien VE L as my main mouse pad, but I also have a QcK+ I will sometimes swap in when I'm playing a game where I need a lot more control.

My cat is HUGE too. He thinks I bought a smaller keyboard so there'd be more room for him to lay on my desk. (He prefers the spot in between the keyboard and monitors.)

Alright guys my camera wouldn't go to a wide enough angle to get my moniters and peripherials in one shot so I had to take two.  Also this is a test as I had my keyboard on the tray and I have since moved it up to the desk top.  If I keep this setup I will run my mouse wireless on the desktop and wired down on the tray when I am gaming.

metalliqaz is right... SolidWorks. I find it very intuitive for moving models / parts / assemblies around. Normally it lives to the left of the keyboard, but it looked good there in the middle.

Are you lefty or righty? After using righty numpads for my whole life, its for sure hard to use the numpad with the left hand, despite being left handed. But the positioning on the left is way better, so I must get used to it.

It did not work for me but I didn't do a lot of messing with it.  I had issues with it on Win 7 as well.  They do feel very nice and are nice and heavy.  The movement is smooth with no detents.  Just doesn't do anything but light up.

I picked one of these desks up off of kijiji a while ago for $100 with 2 extensions for each side.(normal and rounded) You can buy extensions as well and make it massive.

I would recommend it.

I just put a fluffy blanket on my desk/under my keyboard. So it's warm and comfortable while typing (currently a bit cold in germany).

Not a really pretty solution, but it feels very good and makes the keyboard sound different :D

some people prefer the stationary ball to the moving mouse

imo its more ergonomic your arm isn;t moving much so once u get in a comfortable position it doesn't change

I just bought it to play around with mainly, but I've found myself using the trackball to navigate with my left hand and clicking my mouse with my right hand.

Its equipped with IMSTO thick blank PBT caps, some SC2 / WoW / Dota PBT caps, a Pexon detachable cable and an aluminum batman key. Only thing I can think to do now to it is add some clacks if I can find some!

I have a problem, namely the costar stabilisers grinding on the inner side of the thick PBT caps on the enter and left shift button.
Did/Do you have the same problem, and if the answer is yes, how did u fix it?

I changed stuff up a couple days ago, instead of tenting i am using the hands far apart and flat with the mouse in the middle and i have to say I LOVE IT

I also played a lot of Counter-Strike 1.6 when I was younger, and that's why I keep my keyboard like that to this day. I actually have it at a steeper angle most of the time. Since I have wide shoulders I find it way more comfortable this way. I usually sit a bit sideways and lean backwards in my chair as well.

Current setup on my primary computer. I have been experimenting with the num-pad as matrix for a few weeks now. I would like to have some custom legends printed up but haven't yet.

I have a key for sleep-wake, for preferences, one that starts a script to turn bluetooth on and off, one that opens the print dialog, one that opens the terminal stuff like that.

I never really use the num-pad, so I wanted to try this.

Nothing fancy schmancy, I think the mouse pad was more expensive than the mouse.

been in a buckling spring mood lately, shelved ergodox for now and probably for the long run, bought a SSK in classifieds because the Model M is really taking up space on my keyboard tray.
