Title: QFR "shield"
Post by: Smeagol_RP on Thu, 29 August 2013, 18:59:48
When I removed that white sticker, left some glue. I tried to remove it but got this dark "blot" around the screw hole.

So...

... a black anodized aluminum plate to cover that sh*t.

I didn't find a place to doa low relief logo, so I had to ask for laser etching.

That's it.  :-*

Build it in parts.  Bottom now, sides later, top eventually  :p  Thin layers of acrylic in between, illuminated with internal LEDs.

That's a very interesting mod! Although I think I would be afraid to actually attempt it since plastic is relatively easy to break when you drill through it? I would guess you didn't have to make the bolt too tight ^^ Otherwise awesome finish!

I should add, while the contest is for the Top covers, you've done the unexpected and modded a bottom "cover"  :thumb:

i've been on the fence about making an allU top plate, I found a place that can do the cutting for $1 a min on a machine, and I'm a cad drafter so creating the file is no problem. i just don't know how much time and cash it will end up costing me per plate.

About $47. Aluminum laser cutting (1mm), anodize and laser etching.

I could use cheaper material but I didn't want something heavy.

Is this one of those, "WHY" / "WHY NOT"   situations where the purpose and intent are unclear/unjustifiable, while at the same time cost $$.
