If I didn't need a new laptop, I'd be all over this.  It would be perfect for figuring out a wood case for ergodox as well.

I noticed that the ErgoDox PCB on mechanicalkeyboards.com is $38 for the set of 2, but there is a massdrop (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/ergodox-pcb) going on right now for $22 for one piece. Is there any difference between the pcb that mechanicalkeyboards is selling, and the one in the massdrop, that would make the price differ so much? The only difference I see is in the colour, and the mechanicalkeyboards one looks better imo.

the mechanical keyboards version also has free shipping so its 38$ total for US

the mechanical keyboards version is in stock now and ships same day

the mechanical keyboards version is a revision that allows pcb mounted stabilizers. The change doesn't matter if you are using a layered acrylic case but if at some time a case was created that was either plate-less or allowed pcb stabilizers it would be sweet.

virdict: the mechanical keyboards version looks to be the better option, it just doesnt come with any other parts  like diodes and teensy just as the massdrop bare pcb also does not come with anything

Thank you, this was just the answer I was looking for. Currently trying to see how much it would cost to make the ErgoDox right now, and knowing that the mechanical keyboards version looks to be the better option, is a big help.

i mean the case is the biggest problem right now with buying the bare pcbs from either Mechanical Keyboards or MassDrop

Acquiring the diodes, teensy, expander, etc is pretty easy and switches are currently well stocked at different places. But a case is just not for sale anywhere, only options right now this moment is either having acrylic layers cut using the litster files, or have a 3d printed case made via Shapeways or somewhere else which would require dropping more than $300 for the case alone.

Have any idea how much it would cost to get the cases cut or printed?

i dont have laser cutting sources but if you find someone that does acrylic the dxf files to send to them is here
http://www.ergodox.org/Downloads.aspx, the middle layers have to be a specific thickness but the top and bottom layers can be any thickness.
This requires shopping around for sheets of acrylic and someone to cut them but it is the cheapest option.

the shapeways case is for sale here
http://www.shapeways.com/search?q=ergodox
the total cost of it would start at over $200 with the cheapest materials selected
the cad files for the 3d printed case is also located at http://www.ergodox.org/Downloads.aspx

Yeah, the build looks to be around $250 right now. If I can find someone who could lazer cut for a cheap price, I may go with that route, otherwise maybe waiting for the next group buy could be a better idea.

Those PCBs are really pretty, I have an ergodox from the previous drop coming in soon and considering weather I should buy these just because they look so goodz :(

Great. Now people could get spare pcbs or build their edox without having to depend on groupbuy.

This is pretty awesome, I love the color. I'm in agreeance with most of you - the case is the most difficult/expensive part.

I'll be shipping a case off to Daerid pretty quick to test the fit of the materials I have on hand. If everything ends up working out a Black (or other colors) + Clear (or other colors) are going to land somewhere around the 60-80 mark without hardware. The big question right now is in the materials, what I have should total up to the same thickness, but in a different stack so I need to make sure everything fits right.

Would that be 60-80 each or as a pair?

That would be for a pair.

Well if you ever do get to selling them, I'd be very interested.

I only want one, Does anyone want to go splits? I also have an extra massdrop PCB, so if you're okay with two colours, you could save!

I thought it was $38 shipped for one. silly me!

I need an ErgoDox case, and your estimated price is perfect.   ;D

Bah. Building your own ErgoDox case out of wood or sheet styrene wouldn't be that difficult if you are a bit crafty. The PCB supports PCB-mounting, so no laser-cutting or CNC is necessary.
