Have been lurking for about 2 weeks now, figured I would start posting here! Hi everyone!
I had a FILCO brown for 3 years prior to this (but it's broken since I decided to wipe it with a towel that was a bit too wet), so not really a keyboard virgin persay, but since I bumped into this board I have gone crazy and have bought 4 more keyboards and a whole bunch of PBT keycaps from Feng on eBay. You guys have really opened my eyes to how far one can go when collecting/modding/oggling at keyboards.
In about a week, I've bought:
FILCO Ninja 104 key (Brown)
FILCO Ninja 104 key (Red)
Ducky DK9008G2 Dark Gray Version (Cherry Brown)
Topre Realforce 104UB (Variable Force) - for work
Blank white and gray thick PBT keycaps
Dark gray thick PBT keycaps (for my FILCO red I'm thinking, to match the LEDs)
Black on black PBT keycaps (from qtan, all other keycaps from Feng)
Bunch of novelty PBT keycaps (looking forward to the zerg/terran/protoss ones from Feng - used to be a pretty avid SC2 gamer)
There goes my salary for the month! Going to starve for the next few weeks..
Will post tons of pictures as soon as I get all the goods :) Although in my experience impulse buys rarely work out...
Look forward to meeting you all and asking for technical assistance when one of my purchases inevitably malfunction!!!!!
Friggin love keyboards man..

Welcome to GH.
Wow. You did an excellent job spending money, and I commend you on that. However, I would advise more diversity next time. You bought four full-sized keyboards. Maybe try a TKL? The PBT keycaps will serve you well and will last a long time.

That's an appropriate way to start off your stay here at wallethack if I ever saw one.
Welcome, and while you're at it you should check out the threads for other interests(audio, shaving etc.) for more stuff to throw money at.

Thanks guys. I think you're right eth0s, will definitely try out a TKL sometime, I've just never owned one before and I can't imagine life without a keypad.
I had been looking at the Poker II, but what TKL would you recommend?

Post some pics :)

Hmm, Poker II is a so-called 60% keyboard (has no F-keys, and no nav cluster or arrow keys). Which means you will be jumping into the deep end, without going through the intermediate steps. But that's okay too. Start like a boss. However, since you like MX switches, any of the Filco TKL's are great. Leo FC200 TKL is a great low-cost alternative. I think they are still ~ $90. You can get both in MX Blue (since you already have red and brown).
Personally, however, I prefer Topre switches. So I would recommend the RealForce 87U TKL. If you really want to skip the intermediate steps of TKL Cherry and RealForce, and go directly to the best keyboard by far, and just get yourself an HHKB Pro 2. Which is a going to blow your mind maybe, coming from full-size Cherry MX keyboards. Maybe you won't be ready for it. I dunno. Maybe you will love it. Price has never been better for HHKB Pro 2 at ~ $260 (USD) at elitekeyboards.com. I endorse only the HHKB, and not elitekeyboards.com. I don't care where you buy one, I'm just giving you the easiest option for CONUS.

wow, you really went all out!

Well, them Korean customs are quite expensive..

Thanks for all the responses guys, I feel so welcome :D
About the TKL, the HHKB looks really snazzy but I'm not sure how much I'd like the UNIX layout! I think a good middle would be the Realforce 87u 45 or 55g, but I'm not sure. Why don't we do something sensible for once and wait until I try my full size Realforce :P if I don't like it maybe someone here can buy it off me, or maybe I can try modding it so its mostly uniform with 30g numpad and function key? But I feel like that'd be a hindrance at work...fat finger risk on the numpad and all
Haha, I actually haven't gotten anything yet in the mail given I live in HK. I just found a dealer here that stocks topre, ducky and FILCO so I feel like I've been jibbed on like $100 of shipping...I could have bought myself a filco TKL with that kind of money! Sigh.. Pics to come when everything arrives in the mail! I'll take pics of the stock and maybe play around with changing key caps :D
So excited I feel like a little kid, but who says that's a bad thing? :P

Blues sound interesting. I've stayed away mainly because I never thought I'd like the noise, but then again I never knew there was such a booming market in second hand boards, so let's see!

welcome bro,..and enjoy ur stay

Black on black PBT keycaps (from qtan, all other keycaps from Feng)
Any chance you have a link to that? I've been impressed by the black-on-black look and would love to pick up a set.

You really go head first into a new hobby, huh? :P
welcome then!

I found them on his vendio store

Actually in my haste I didn't realize they are OEM high profile. What does that mean?

I do, perhaps to my detriment since I end up buying a lot of stuff without trying it out first. Well, if anything goes wrong I expect geekhack to be my ER :D

Hi,
you may consider adding one more of the CHERRY G80-1865 white switch.
Rarely shows in the market. NOW avaialble again.
Classic and collectible.
-
I think I am in about $600 now. I think I am at the point now though where I can start to unload stuff as I bring on new stuff. :)
Heres to hoping anyway... :P

Wow.. :thumb:
Here I am holding back while trying to decide which _one_ keyboard to get and I read this.. sorta puts my problems of making a choice into perspective!
Absolutely amazing! I just endore the dedication of people on this forum, it's contagious :-)

Now in China market comes new supply of G80-1865. These are from the latest prodution (and is said to be the last production also) in Germany. In original package made and imported from Germany.
This time cherry offers brown, blue, black, red and the white switch as well.
Do not know if they are commonly seen in the market in europe ...
^^ probably not the best place to be advertising or whatever it is your attempting to do.

Unfortunately, yes. If I get in on the LZ-FE I think I am done for awhile. But then I still have yet to try RF 55g and HHKB!

Ok ok..time to show us your pile of goodies.

Ok ok..time to show us your pile of goodies.
I gave both full sized browns away, the one in the second picture to my friend. Got the chameleon cover from moose :D. The fullsize seen here is the red switch. Ducky is partially disassembled cause I am in the middle of doing the cherry stabilizer clipping mod. There are also lubed and stickered ergo blacks and stock clears and browns salvaged from my old filco! Don't think the ragnarock keyset is in the pic though..
-
Nice, so do u like tkl s now and whats ur fav switch.
-
So........ where's ur Ergodox
-

Yeah I really like TKLs, although I do find myself missing the easily accessible enter key on my numpad. I keep subconsciously reaching over with my mouse hand :(
Favorite switch right now is brown. I knew I hated black but I got my Ducky with black switches because I thought I should give them another try, but nope. I really like red switches too and find them great for gaming. Brown narrowly wins because they feel slightly snappier. I briefly tried out clears by putting them ok my KMAC plate and putting caps on them, but I haven't yet experienced the full board. Once I get stickers from MOZ I'll be making ergo clears
Still unsure whether I will assemble my KMAC with ergo clears (62g/65g/55g) or 62g ergo blacks though. How different are 62g blacks from stock ones anyways? I tried them briefly and seemed to like them, but I can't know for sure until I use a whole board for a prolonged period.
-
Sorry but I don't know much about springs. Haven't modded any kb. I'm using reds which I like but I want to try blues and browns also.

If you're interested in my thoughts on Korean springs and spring swapping, check out my review here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44749.0). :D

I've read that and I liked it alot, even if it was obvious from that review that you preferred stiff switches. I prefer softer switches, however (I have slender girls' fingers). Since you don't like reds I think it makes sense that you don't like ergo blacks. I got them because I think reds are too light (but I like light switches), but I think blacks are too heavy -> ergo I must like 62/65g blacks. I think I will also make lubed 62g clears and see how that goes :)
Thanks!! So excited for ergo clears given how hyped they are. Don't think I'll even give stock clears a chance...if I hate stock blacks I don't think there's any way in hell I'd enjoy stock clears.

Nice stack of goodies there! I am sort of on my way like you. I am still searching for my "perfect" switch so keep buying different keyboards. I just got two in yesterday and I dont think they will last long. I dont quite have as much as you do in this (yet)!!
