When my Ducky Shine 3 (latest firmware 308) is set to any repeat delay (not repeat rate) higher than the lowest setting, keys will toggle on and off incredibly fast while pressed, assuming it's the same speed as the repeat rate.
Can anyone confirm this bug with their keyboard?
In typing environments this isn't a problem, but in-game or anything that requires a sustained keypress it can be pretty devastating! I first noticed it on a piano program and almost deafened myself. In-game you can't run as it'll strobe the key on and off and stutter-step you.
One thing I've noticed about this is: while holding down the key to get it to stutter, pressing any other key will disable the stutter on the first key, allowing it to sustain on until key release.
Again this only occurs when the repeat delay is anything other than the lowest setting.
-
Figure this might be a good time to bump as there's a higher chance now someone else has come across this.
Still an issue for me! Can't find any info anywhere else.

I think all backlit keyboards stutter. Usually its not noticable
-
I have not seen that on any of my keyboards, including two Ducky Shine (version 1).
Can you try the keyboard on a different computer? And/or try a different keyboard on this computer?
-
Yeah this occurs on all devices the keyboard is plugged into. Definitely a bug with the keyboard itself.

Are you talking about the backlights themselves stuttering or the key press event stutter that I'm talking about?
Again, it only occurs when the key delay setting is set to greater than the lowest setting.
Does anybody know where to report a bug like this to Ducky?
-
Where did you get the keyboard from? You might be able to exchange it there.

I notice with repeat delay set to D4 onward, forces you to type really light otherwise it will give you multiple unwanted character input.
I can only type comfortably with D2 setting.
edit:
this behaviour is normal with repeat delay set to too low/fast:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_meant_by_'Repeat_Delay'_in_customizing_the_keyboard (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_meant_by_'Repeat_Delay'_in_customizing_the_keyboard)
Repeat Delay: This is the length of time that a key must be held down before the typematic feature is activated. Each time you release a key and press a new one, the delay "countdown" is reset. The larger the value, the longer each key must be held down before key repetition begins. If it is set too small, you may get keys repeating when you don't want them to.

Maybe record a video to show us?

Ah, good idea, video coming up.

This isn't related. My problem is more complex. Video will explain.

Can you make a video so we can understand?
It might other shine owners :)

My Ducky Shine 3 (latest firmware, US ANSI 1.1.6) has the exact same problem. I know this post is a few weeks old, but I thought it might be helpful to note that it is a problem for me as well. I didn't notice until I decided to play some games that use WASD keys for movement. While typing text, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable problem. I liked the D2 setting more than the lowest repeat delay, but setting it back to the lowest delay fixed the problem and stopped the 'stutter' effect, which really makes games unplayable.
The 'stutter' effect makes the game behave as if you were to press the key and release it, over and over quickly, instead of holding the key down. My toon stutter steps forward instead of just walking forward smoothly like it should.
While typing text, the repeat delay setting seems to work as intended.

I don't seem to have this problem as I leave the settings on the lowest. I don't really see a need for the settings at all to be honest. I'd rather have them bring the media keys back... Just turn them off when gaming and you won't have any problems.

Hello.
I want to ask about the repeat delay and repeat rate options for this keyboard (Shine 3). You say the issue OP describes doesnt happen while using the lowest repeat delay. I want to ask, what is the lowest repeat delay? Is it lower than the windows control panel lowest value (which is about 1/4 of a second, ~250 ms)?
What repeat delay level is the keyboard set to out of the box?
And what about the repeat rate options, can i turn it up to a higher repeat rate than what i get with windows control panel max?
-
If you're referring to the 1x to 4x keys in the top right corner, I am given to understand that the 4x speed is almost unusably fast.
Although on the Mac they don't seem to do anything.
Which makes me wonder how they work - do they send a scan code to the PC (Windows) that changes the repeat rate?

Ok. I want to know more about the repeat delay options for this keyboad. Can someone who owns this keyboad explain how the repeat delay values differ from the windows control panel values?
250 ms is windows control panel lowest value for repeat delay. Is the Shine 3:s lowest repeat delay value lower than 100 ms? What about the second lowest value, how low would that be if you estimate?
Btw, was it the repeat delay settings that caused the stutter issue or was it the repeat rate settings?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same Problem with this Keyboard....
I have write it to the Facebook Team the Answer is:
Repeat and delay are emulated in hardware. It is Windows + USB limitation.
But on Ducky Channel Page we can read : USB N-Key rollover and repeat acceleration ensures you don’t miss a beat whatever the game you play
What is this ? The Feature is useless on this Keyboard!
No Problems with Repeat Rate on Zowie Celeritas over PS/2

I'm fine right now on N-key rollover. It's just when I just try to use usb delay and repeat it stutters in the FPS but Lol is pretty freaking amazing.

This might be a bit off topic but i will answer my own question above in this thread.
I bought and tried a Ducky 3 yesterday. I found out that the second level repeat delay is just as fast as the windows max, that being about 250 ms repeat delay. The third level however is significantly faster, probably around 70-80 ms (my estimation). This is simply too fast, i tried playing with it (SC2) but ended up double tapping every now and then against my will. Why the hell does it go from 250 ms all the way to about 70-80 ms? Where is my perfect 120 ms option?! :( Btw the 4:th repeat delay level is pretty much instantaneous repeat, its really hard to achieve a single press with it enabled, the repeat delay is probably around 20 ms or so.
So, if you buy this keyboard and want to benefit from a shorter repeat delay the option that is about 70-80 ms is your only alternative. Simply too short of a repeat delay. I will return the keyboard as i have no use of it.
Btw i have not mesaured the repeat delay levels, but i have used a software before called "KeyBoard King" where i for fun tried out all different levels of repeat delay, so i got a pretty good grasp of different repeat delay speeds (and could tell that about 120 ms would be my optimal speed of repeat delay). This software does not work well at all in most programs though, but is great for testing.

Work the Ducky 3 over ps/2 ?

Work the Ducky 3 over ps/2 ?
I have been considering this option, but it appears that all PS/2 adapters are driven off of USB anyway. Can you recommend one that works directly via PCI, or are they all USB crossover?

That was a Question from me ^^

Ah, maybe I misunderstood. You mentioned "No Problems with Repeat Rate on Zowie Celeritas over PS/2". Can you tell me what kind of motherboard or PCI card you're using to have a Zowie Celeritas over PS/2?

I have the RIVE
