Title: Leopold tenkeyless or cm storm quickfire
Post by: Air tree on Tue, 03 September 2013, 18:53:31
So i was looking at some keyboards and i found this http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless&pid=fc200rcab and from what i have seen it's a very solid keyboard, this will be my first mech keyboard, sadly i have not had a chance to try any other switches but cherry mx blues but from what i have seen i like blues very much. I'm not sure on a build quality stand point but i prefer the look and font on the leopold over the cm storm. can someone shed some light on this?

Consider that:

the FC200R is an older product already succeeded by the FC700R (that EK cannot/refuses to stock)
that said FC700R has advantages such as PBT keycaps
that the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid is much celebrated as a good quality but cheap option
and the CM QFR is a Costar build
and is sold by many retailers instead of just EK vis Leopolds

I'd take a Quickfire Rapid over a Leopold (FC200R or FC700R) any day, mainly because I can't stand Cherry Stabilizers.

They are both good. For p/p QF Rapid is a bit better, but has the uglier font.

Since I touch type, I recommend QF Rapid

Definitely QFR, if you want the cool look and don't think you'll buy keycaps any day soon, get the QFS.

Personally, if I don't like the looks of something, I don't buy even if it's cheaper.

I ordered a Tenkeyless keyboard from EliteKeyboards simply because I like the looks of it a lot more than the Quickfire. I could have bought a CoolerMaster mechanical keyboard from my country, probably saving some euro, but I'm 100% positive that I wouldn't be totally happy with what I'd end up with. That's why I also didn't get a Razer BlackWidow, same availability in Greece, same weird (for me at least) font on the keys.

Yeah, my biggest complaint about the CM's is the stupid font on the keycaps. They may be good, especially at the price, but if you have to replace the keycaps because you can't stand the font, then any savings goes out the window.

If you want looks and dont want to replace anything, go with the Leo or QFR Stealth, the reg QFR stock caps are ugly.
