Title: LF LEDs for keyboard
Post by: turtle on Wed, 04 September 2013, 08:13:18
Hello,as title states. I previously bought LEDs from eBay to swap out the original  LEDs on my keyboard. Sadly to say they suck and not as bright as the original ones. Can any guide me to the right direction to get better ones? Thanks!

I believe different colored led's require a different amount of voltage so just swapping leds might not be a good idea(might be why those are dim).  I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in to help though.

Check out this eBay seller, IC.TOUCH. He has a store, and sells these 2x3x4 rectangle LEDs. I bought the water clear white superbright ones, and I was very happy with them.

Do you need to file the LEDs to make sure that the keycaps won't hit them when you are typing?

Not for those, you don't. They mount flush with the top cover of the switch. :)

Thanks jdcarpe, was looking for white ones. Do you think the purple and other color will be just as bright? Or what xender stated earlier it would make a diff too? Trying to put these on my pure pcb and poker I have.

I haven't found any purple in 2x3x4 rectangle. And the purple ones I did have were pretty dim on a Poker.

Could always replace the surface mounted resistors for more brightness  :p

Since your pretty knowledgable with LEDs which one have you tested that your happy with the lighting besides white one. Sorry for asking so many questions. Just trying to make the right purchase. I am most likely order the ones you linked previously with a few more colors.  Thanks again!

Do you have a guide on how to do that? I only have experience with adding plate, lubing, stickers and swapping switches, and LEDs.

The white and blue were nice and bright. The green I ordered were somewhat dimmer than I would have liked. I haven't tested the orange yet. :)

Here is a site I've found some on. I haven't had a chance to buy or test them but they give you the voltage on the site itself.
