So I was drinking my tea in front of the computer this morning, just like I always do, but I failed to swallow properly, causing a drop to go down the wrong pipe.
This sent an involuntary message from my brain to my throat that went something like, "SPIT IT OUT, NOW!" Not only did I cough, but my mouth was instantly transformed into something resembling a dolphin's blowhole as I ejected the liquid at speed towards my keyboard. It was like in the movies when someone says something hilarious or something preposterous happens in the background, making the protagonist vomit his drink across the room.
In shock, I looked at my keyboard, expecting to see very brown liquid seeping between my very white, pristine keys. Somehow, it was virtually untouched. My monitor and speaker, and left arm were completely spattered with secondhand tea, but there was only a single, small drop on the F1 key. I didn't realize how attached I had become until I felt the panic surge through me at the thought of losing it.
Anyone else have a close call or a miraculous save?

I spilled cola in my camo filco once. ONCE.
No more drinks on the desk.
-
Moving my water bottle to the side right now...
-
I SPILLED SOME JUICE ON MY KEYBOARD A WHILE AGO. IT GOT MY KEYBOARD ALL STICKY AND TOOK OVER 6 MONTHS OF USE TO WEAR THE STICKY GOO OFF OF THE KEY TOPS.

I always saw the clips where people would bite into a can and it would burst open. Well I didn't think that happened so I tried it at my desk. That **** exploded. All over my face, my clothes, the floor. There were even a few drops on my monitor. Fortunately my GON was spotless. I just about had a heart attack.
Last time I do something that stupid at my desk.

I didn't know it was possible to bite "into" an aluminum can..

Every time this topic recurs, I wonder why more manufacturers don't use the Dearmo technique of putting a cover over the sides of the switches...makes it harder (though not impossible) for fluid to get inside.
Seems like a very sensible idea.

no, see, they want it to break, so you have to buy a new board.. (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/th_105_.gif)

Yeah, I didn't think it was either.

I was moving a full cup of hot coffee from my coffee tray to the right of the keyboard (on a separate desk) to the coaster on the left of the keyboard.
I misjudged slightly the height of the cup compared to the vertical orientation of the OEM key caps on my Ducky Shine, and the base of the cup just grazed the leading edge of the keyboard (numpad side).
This caused a displacement of liquid in the general direction of the keyboard.
Panicking, I immediately (but carefully) set down the cup on the coaster, removed the keycaps that had small drips of coffee on them, and dabbed gingerly at the tiny coffee puddle on the plate.
Pressing the switches seemed to indicate that the keys still worked, so I replaced the keycaps and continued whatever I had been doing (before making coffee).
The next morning those keys (about 3) did not work. They pressed down, registered, and stuck down.
After mashing the keys for a few days on and off, they all came good.
I consider that I was lucky, and now move the (full) coffee cup from the coffee tray to the coaster by way of a slight detour behind my chair.
No further spills have occurred.

Honestly, the most sensible thing to do would be to ban liquids from the the computer desk completely. Heck, my tea wasn't even on the computer desk, but it still found a way from my mouth to the F1 key.
But at the same time, I just can't imagine reading geekhack before work without my cup of tea :-).

Haven't had any miraculous saves, but I did have 3 controller boards die randomly, dropped a phone on a keyboard, dropped a lamp on a keyboard, and dropped a screwdriver on a keyboard.

Food and drink should be banned from the room where computers are used.
Plus it should be mandatory to wash your hands before entering the room.

A lamp how does that happen?

I spilled some tea on my Filco a while ago. Somehow it managed to only make it's way into my up arrow key, which turned into a linear switch for a few hours but after some spamming it was back to normal.
Before I got into mechanical keyboards I dumped an entire glass of water onto my Razer Lycosa. Wiped it off and the keyboard worked just fine.

Well it had been a couple days since the last time, and...
-
I dropped a Netgear blue metal desktop switch once, and the corner clipped the F8 key on my Filco and pinged off the keycap. It left a sizeable dent in the desk, too.
-
I once knocked over my coffee cup, it fell right next to the keyboard.
had a heart attack
-
My desk was held together only by a single crochet hook for years instead of screws and bolts, there were more than a few close calls, quite a few more catastrophes tho.

I poured a whole bottle of water into my filco by accident yesterday. Opened it up and am letting it dry. :(
