Title: Is the LED out on my A key? Shine III Ducky
Post by: dman777 on Thu, 05 September 2013, 17:35:15
Is the LED out on my A key? or is there some kind of config I need to change? I unplugged and plugged my keyboard back in but still no success. All the keys light up with the exception of scrlock and A key. Also, my keyboard is acting funny...like I have F10 to bring up chromium and it seems like the keyboard falls asleep or something because the first press never registers.

Here is picture of it. Is Ducky a bad product? This is only like 2 months old. I like the keyboard alot but now this is a big let down.

Swap it out?

Did it work originally?

Did anything happen to make it stop working (e.g. liquid spill, droppage)?

Ducky is generally a good brand.  Apart from a few non-clicky blue switches, there are few problems with them.

Can you RMA it?

One doesn't simply spend $150 for a more durable keyboard and have it not break.

No changes, the A key LED just stopped working by itself. I guess I will have to RMA  it. Is that going to cost a fortune to send it to Taiwan? I could buy another Ducky keyboard to use why I ship it off but I'm not sure how wise that could be if their quality is not that good. Another thing that bothers me is it seems like it goes to sleep by itself since I have to hit a key twice before it repsondeds(usually the f10 which is always the key I hit first to spawn a chromium session).

Have you tried updating the firmware?

I understand that this is possible with the Shine 3, and that several updates have already been released by Ducky.

try to "shake" the led. maybe it has a bad connection.

Ya, I updated the firmware about 2 weeks ago. But, I don't know. I really liked my Ducky keyboard, so I'm trying to get over it without getting more upset. I can live without the led light I suppose, but that keyboard sleep problem(which came at the same time the led went out) could make it where I can't work. I emailed them on facebook so I'm hoping they might have a way I could fix it with some kind of reset or something.

It does sound a bit as if it is a defective PCB or controller.

Or maybe just a bad connection.

But fiddling around with any of those involves opening the case which would void your warranty.

If you bought it from MechanicalKeyboards.com, you won't be sending it to Taiwan. You'll be sending it to MK, who handles RMAs for Ducky in the US. (I asked them about this just in case before ordering. By which I mean: I haven't hit the 3 month mark on my DK9008G2 Pro yet.)

It has only happened to a couple of people.   I have two MX blue switches on one of my Duckys that only sometimes click.  The other one is completely fine.  Most keyboards and switches are completely fine.
