Well it's about time i have finally decided on my first keyboard, It's the Leopold FC660M! With cherry mx brown switches, a total of $138 including shipping with thick pbt keycaps (grey) I think it will serve me well as my first mech keyboard! http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/item/shop-mechanical-keyboard-by-sw/leopold-fc660m-mechanical-keyb/lid=35722930 Thanks everyone for helping me make my decision on what keyboard to get.

I'll be the first to stay congratulations! I'm still looking at the market to find my first board, but I'm getting close! Hope you enjoy the board.

A good choice - lots of people really like the FC660M.
let us know what you think of it after you have been usingit for a week or two.

I opened this thread expecting to see a qfr with blues or poker with reds.
Good job being original.

congrats on your first board...and my condolences in advance for what's about to follow :P

Nice choice :) you will be pleased

With all the positive comments about the FC660M (and FC660C), it was almost inevitable that people would start choosing one of them as a first mechanical keyboard.
Something different to the run of the mill 104 key rubber dome, without being too far off centre.

So what do you guys think about mx clears? i think i will like them. a bit more stiff and a more defined bump to them from what i hear.

Soon you will see what an immense mistake this decision had been. You're now $140 further from the ergodox...
Sux to be you... (http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/tuzki-bunnys/tuzki-bunny-emoticon-025.gif)

Nice thing about clears is that if you don't like the feel you can mod them with springs and lube into ErgoClears.
Clears are nice, but ErgoClears are better ;) (For my fingers at least)
I found stock clears a bit hard on the weaker fingers, ring and pinkie. I admit I didn't take time to wear them in, but I also didn't want to fatigue my digits doing it. So I don't know what worn in clears are like.

If you dont like it , mod it

congratz u have made up ur mind !! great to hear that

The Leopold FC660M is a solid board with an very good layout. I liked mine fairly well until I got the Topre-switch model, the FC660C. I much prefer the Topre switches over any cherry switch I have tried (brown, blue, green, white, black) and perhaps as much as the buckling springs on my IBM SSK. My typing speed and accuracy are significantly better on the FC660C than any other board except the IBM SSK, on which I score about the same. The only thing I don't like about the FC660C is the current lack of Topre keycaps. I would like a white and light gray set similar to the ones on the white/gray versions of the RF 87U and HHKB Pro2, but so far, such keycaps are not available for the FC660C. So, as far as keycaps are concerned, the FC660M has the advantage that the keycaps are customizable, keeping in mind the non-standard stem spacing on the spacebar and the 2.25x right-shift.

Congrats on your choice, its the only keyboard I don't regret buying...

Congratz! T'was my first keyboard as well. Would've loved it if I didn't find a Poker X for the same price that I got mine ($100 shipped from ebay). I am using reds, but my Poker X uses ergoclears. I also used the UST and have to say that the clears (especially ergoclears) are much more satisfying to type on due to the larger bump.
It will take time getting used to this board (personal observation) as the keycaps are close to flat and shorter than OEM. I swapped most of the keys (spacebar and right shift keys are different from the standard OEM) with blank PBT caps that I used on my (now unusable cause I suck at modding) Poker X. The Fc660c has standard profile keycaps so your fingers won't be slipping around the keyboard.
If you love your Fc660m you should definitely look into getting the FC660C to get into a Topre collection. That might be my move. Sure as hell going to love the keycaps in comparison to stock 660m caps. Just waiting for a white board to be released.

I'm not sure if the one qtan is selling is the one with stock keycaps. Maybe though.
