Title: WANT TO TRY - Keyboards with other switches
Post by: CalmB4tehPwn on Fri, 06 September 2013, 06:52:21
This is a bit unorthodox, I know, but I want to borrow, or put on loan, a keyboard with switches I'd like to try.

I'm pretty sure I'll end up with some blacks eventually, they're easy and cheap to track down, reds I'm not too concerned about because I can just swap out the springs in my future blacks. I've got blues now, and browns aren't supposed to be that different, so that leaves us with...

Clears and Greens!

If you have a keyboard with clears or greens, I would like to try it. And since I'm trapped in Korea without a speck of Hongul to my name (the korean language) I doubt I'll find much help around here. So I'm offering this:

I send you the approximate worth of your keyboard, you send it my way. I try it out for an agreed amount of time (I'm thinking a week) and send it back to you. I'll cover shipping both ways, and would prefer, since shipping is a concern, to try both a board with clears AND a board with greens from the same person.

I would prefer to do this up with someone who is reputable on the forums, someone I've seen around quite a bit in my last month or so here, but this isn't putting any more faith in someone that I'd be purchasing a keyboard from, so I don't know what I'm worried about. Reputable.

OR, if you're a Korean local with a better grasp of English than I have of Hongul, maybe we can meet up in Pyongtaek. I'd rather do this, as I'm not putting hundreds of dollars in limbo and then spending cash on shipping on top of that, but that's still better than putting up 80 bucks for a set of clears or greens I may not even like. Though, I suppose they're likely to keep their resale value if this trend continues.

Anyways, give me a shout if you've got a board I can try out. It's shipping to Korea (CONUS prices, but overseas wait time) so patience is needed. Vital.

Let me know what you've got.

For greens, just get 80g springs and swap them in your blues.

Yeah, I would be interested in whites. They're clears but clicky, no?

why not buy  keychains of every switch or buy a switch tester, shipping both ways is crazy ._.

I believe that stock clears are heavier and that White is unique because it's click sounds slightly dampened.

I could pick up a switch sampler, sure. But I want to have a couple days to type on a keyboard and decide if I actually like it.
Key sampler is much better than going in blind, but I'd like an opportunity to actually try out a keyboard.

I would say more similar to greens with a less intense click, not as fatiguing and smoother because they are factory lubed.

I'd probably replace them with the MX Light springs anyways, making a white version of the Ergo Clears.

Have you read cptbd's thoughts? He has a really good write up here

Ah, thanks for that reminder to re-read his thoughts. Given the nature of white, green, and clear and their availabilities, I think modding my blues with 62 or 65g springs from originative might be a decent option.

That did actually really help. Thank you.
