Title: Glad to Join the Club
Post by: dragonxx21 on Fri, 06 September 2013, 20:05:12
Just ordered my first mechanical keyboard. Nothing fancy, just a board that a few people suggested I buy. Now I have to suffer through the pain of waiting until it arrives, haha.

For anyone that's interested, I bought the Quickfire Rapid (sorry for being unoriginal!) with blue switches, and also picked up some Vortex PBT caps by recommendation as well.

In honor of tp4tissue, it will be an ErgoDox... Just kidding :p but I definitely would be up for a DIY project as my second board.

I'm already becoming sucked into the whole keycap thing that everyone here is into.

Actually that CM Storm Quickfire Rapid with PBT keycaps will be a really nice keyboard.  Especially with MX Blues.  You did a great job on your first mech keyboard.

heh.  Jumping to an ergodox with some GMK double shots would be a great second step.  You also need some Krytox lube and some 62g solid gold springs from Korea to mod your ergo clears.  Your total cost for that will run ~ $600+.  And it will feel almost as good as a Topre.

Or you could move over to the side of the angels and get a Topre HHKB Pro 2 Type-S with blank OEM PBT keycaps.

I couldn't have picked any of that without the help of the guys in the IRC. Hmm ErgoDox or Topre, hard choice, why don't I just get both? Haha, but being serious, I'd probably try out a ton of other boards until I spring for a Dox or Topre, but they are definitely on my list of boards I want.

God start for sure..

No matter how great you are, 60% keyboards with silly layouts will always be better. MiniLA 4 life.

I'll have to get at least one 60% in my lifetime, but probably not a lot, as I can't live without my function keys as a gamer :(

Nice choice, I still use and love my QFR. Once you replace the caps its nothing to shake a stick at for sure. There's a qfr acrylic case thread in the group buy section going on right now if you are interested.
