Hey, guys. So I'm going to get a K70 with MX Blues and I was wondering what you guys think of it?
I know a lot of you guys will recommend keyboards from Ducky and Filco, etc, but what makes the K70 not as good?
I know a lot of you guys were mad about the K60 and K90 not being fully mechanical but Corsair has fixed this, so is there anything else really bad about this keyboard?
Thanks, guys.
Edit : Another question! Do you guys know if I will be able to replace the keycaps of the K70? Or are the keys not a standard size? Thanks.

The only thing wrong with the K70 is that it's not a 60%

Haha of course. Well I will be getting a Ducky Mini for a Shine 3 TKL for portable use later on.
Nothing else wrong with the keyboard?

GH60 all the way ;D

My miniLA has something to say about that.

While I like the K90 I have and I like the K70, it gets rather boring to have... It's an amazing keyboard. It has NKRO and media keys which are awesome. I like that Corsair is finally giving more options which means they are making a step in the right direction. But for $20 more you get lighting modes and two user configurable led settings with the Shine 3, I'm sorta babbling here lol. It's a great keyboard and will not disappoint.
[Edit] This is irrelevant but I really don't like keyboards that are marketed for "gaming" that's why Razer's blackwidow is selling so well, people see oh it's for gaming it must be the best. Lol.

Indeed, but other companies like Coolermaster and Corsair do this as well. It irks me when I see a plain mechanical keyboard marketed as "gaming" when it won't really affect your gaming performance at all, just typing.

If you buy an ergodox.. It will appease the keyboard gods. They see it as you accepting the jesus equivalent of keyboards "into your heart".

Corsair kind of has a right to say this however, well kinda. They state that reds are superior for gaming. While yes they are AMAZING for gaming they aren't everyone's choice and they saw that, now you can buy browns blues and reds, nice to see corsair listening to their customers. However razer on the other hand dear god please at least state that blues are better for typist lol. Coolermaster I see that they do market like that also but they implemented NKRO and aren't too flashy about their keyboards I really like their looks. I don't like flashy keyboards at all. How ever if you use more than 6 key rollover like I do then it is an amazing feature to have. Most keyboards I see have 6 over USB and NKRO over PS2 which my motherboard does not have so I don't see a need for those. The K70 is amazing I love my K90 it has served me well but the Esc key died on me the other so I want to buy the Shine 3 this month and then a griffin powermate for media.

Maybe one day. I need a normal layout for now. :)

Yes that is true. Razer's marketing is just annoying when they say "Amazing tactile mechanical keys for gaming performance." No where on their keyboard's pages do they say what switch they are.
I will definitely get a K70 then. I'm afraid of getting addicted to collecting mechanical keyboards now, haha, they're so expensive.
More input would be nice, thanks guys.

The old Corsair mechs have a lot of issues (half rubber dome, firmware issue... etc). But the new ones don't really have any problem as far as I'm aware of.
The only thing is that they use Cherry stabilizers which some might not like. But it's a preference type of thing, so I'd say go for it. :thumb:

I thought the k70 and k90 are still not fully mech while the k75 and k95 are the fully mech versions.

Buying a corsair is how I started with my addiction to keyboards. Then I discovered Ducky shine 3. It looks amazing! Those LEDs and that plain and non flashy look I love it. The K70 has a cool effect where the LED reflects off the aluminum and creates a sorta spreading look, it's really cool. I just need to buy that ducky at this point. If I may ask, what exactly has you wanting a K70?

The K70 K95 K65 are all fully mechanical. The K60 and the K90 are not fully mech. Nice to see that corsair listened to people.

Wanted a K70 as my first mechanical keyboard, and it has everything I wanted a keyboard to have. The dedicated media buttons sold me as I use them quite a lot, and the keyboard itself looks really amazing.
I will be getting a Ducky keyboard afterwards to bring around to use outside of home. After trying some mechanical switches, I can't handle using my own membrane keyboard haha.

Ah ok
I really like my media keys but as I recently discovered the griffin powermate I don't care about dedicated media keys anymore. I really like my K90 but I want that shine 3 so bad lol.

Looked up the Griffin Powermate, looks pretty interesting. I might get it but right now I'd like to get dedicated media keys.
The Shine 3 is pretty cool indeed, I was having a hard time deciding between that and the K70 but decided that I could get a TKL Shine 3 later on.

Nice! Yeah the dedicated keys are pretty nice indeed. Do you know which switch you are going to buy?

Going to get MX Blues for my K70, that click is really satisfying. I'll be getting MX Browns for the TKL because I know people would get pretty pissed at me if I used a MX Blue around them haha.

very nice keyboard!!

Alright, thanks guys. Another question!
Do you guys know if I will be able to replace the keycaps of the K70? Or are the keys not a standard size? Thanks. :)
-
main keys, yes, space bar, shift, enter, all stabilized keys, no, since they are either not standard sized or used cherry stabilizers.

Oh I see. Well I'll be mainly replacing main keys anyway so I guess it won't be that much of a problem. Thank you very much.

Yes you will be able to change the keys maybe not the keys like alt or ctrl.

I think the K70 is a really sexy board, I love the design. Sure for $20 more you could get a Ducky and everything but to me it doesn't look anywhere near as good as the K70.
-
Well it depends, the MX browns and blues cost $150 while the version with reds costs $120-$130 at this point.
-
For me personally:
+ Has some cool features like media keys and volume roller-key
+ Available in browns
+ Nice sleeved cord and overall decent build
- Not a fan of the aluminium look or the "hovering keycaps" design
- Cherry stabilizers
- Do not like backlights, and the leds add another 104 things that can break
- Have little confidence in Corsair drivers because of their trackrecord
- Stock ABS keycaps that are not easy to replace while still making use of backlight
- Wristrest too low to be of use, but can be taken off
That said, these are mostly personal subjective issues. I am sure it is a perfectly fine keyboard.

i apologize for hijacking this thread, 1stly.
just registered an account here, am interested in getting a k70 too, trying to find some info bout it here. gonna be my 1st mech keyboard, well 1st since my old ibm days, 20+ years ago.
after reading on the net about it i found some people with their k70 had their led lights dying 1 by 1. this is kinda scary, as for where i live this keyboard costs about 140usd.
some of these people where on amazon, and some was on the official corsair forums. is this really a big issue?
sure one can rma, but ... wouldn't anyone love to avoid rma?
-
Small update, in the end, I did not get the K70. I got the Ducky Shine 3 instead and I am very happy with my choice. I do miss the media buttons though. :P
@Kairock : I'm not sure about the issue as I've never heard of it. :(
(I'm not sure if this post counts as necro-ing or not but if it does, I'm sorry)

Download autohotkey. And paste this.
SC121::Media_Stop
sc16b::Media_Prev
sc16c::Media_Play_Pause
sc132::Media_Next
Your Browser home key is forward
Mail client key is Play/pause
PC key is previous
and calculator is stop.

Dang, you're a life saver! Thanks so much. :) I was wondering if it was possible but that really saves me the trouble of searching it up myself.

Ducky Shine has media buttons - Shine 1 was on the F keys, I think Shine 3 might be the 6key cluster, or maybe still on the Function keys.

It only has mute, volume down, and volume up on del, end, and pgdn respectively.
No problem though, Mr hunterangel solved my problem.

Langdon post up some feedback after you use the Ducky a while
I am a mechanical newbie that has interest in that same board

If you really want it then I can post up a review. Unless you want me to just post up what I think of it in this thread instead? That's okay as well.
All I can say right now is that I have no real complaints at all.
-
FWIW, I have a K65 w/ red o-rings at work & I love it. It's like a brushed graphite aluminum body which is pretty sexy & the board is solid. TKL form factor FTW. Braided cord, very nice. Simple & elegant volume/mute keys. Just the basics, which I love, though I wouldn't complain if it had usb ports.
-
I reallyike the looks of the K65 and it's detachable cable. Wish they would have made a detachable cable for the K70 and K95. Now I just need to decide on what kind of o-rings to get for shine 3.
