Title: REQUEST: Asking "What's the best [insert item here]" questions
Post by: daerid on Mon, 09 September 2013, 16:34:19
Please try to refrain from asking these types of questions. You will pretty much always get the same answer: The "best" is whichever one you like the best. It's completely subjective opinion.

If what you want is to collect others' opinions of their favorite switch, keyboard, brand, mouse, whatever, then please ask "What's your favorite [item]" instead.

Using the phrase "What's the best ..." opens the door for all sorts of assertive and combative arguments, and while we here at GeekHack are for the vast majority of the time a very cheery and helpful bunch, we have on occasion been known to derail such threads into pointless debates where each side is just yelling that what they believe is right, and the others are wrong.

And nobody likes that. So let's all do our part in keeping GeekHack nice and friendly, where we can all share our mutual love for all things keyboards.

I agree with this.

If you're not sure what you'll like best, just get something that seems cool. I got a QFR with blacks, and I still love it after a year and a half.

Except the question, "Whats the best keyboard?"

The answer will always be an Ergo-Dox with DT35 switches.

I'm still surprised that these threads exist, not just here, you'll see them in any forum. By now people should've figured out that threads like that only end up being people basically posting "I like thing X so I think that is the best".

People should stop asking for objective answers to matters that are very much subjective.

I hoped this was a post to allow people to ask in one place, the definitive version of anything. For example, What is the best way to juggle squirrels?

And even though you have created this thread, this question will still be asked, and countless threads made about it forever, and many nerds will rage over it for an eternity.

Well put!

I have been wondering what the best way of saying something like this is, but I didn't want to start a thread about it.

Probably, but at least we gotta try to keep it at bay as best we can.
