Title: Keyboard Kabinet ----- Kickstarter
Post by: Shadovved on Tue, 10 September 2013, 00:16:08
This is interesting. I just wonder if it can hold the weight of those uber heavy Model M/Fs and korean kustoms :))

EDIT: WTF its $250......might as well buy something from IKEA :-X

Its cool for storing keyboard, but I think it is not that useful since you won't use a lot of different keyboard in a day.

I'd like to see how someone can actually use that

$50k? Ahahahaha

I suppose if it was better designed, with more durable materials, like a keyboard display rack. GH should have no problem getting like 50% of the orders ;D

I just can't understand how this would be helpful. If you're on the same network there are is Synergy for mouse and keyboard sharing across monitors or if the machines are localised you use a KVM. So weird.

Interesting, but nah.  I'll just leave mine lying on any available flat surface.

He should have said "Keyboard Kabinet keeps your kables and kords under kontrol!" ;)

Taken directly from the Kickstarter:

"Each unit is comprised of only eleven components (front, back, top, bottom, shelves, plus screws and other connectors) and requires less than five minutes to construct (see our movie on this site). The Keyboard Kabinet is so simple in fact, it could easily be copied."

They then proceed to charge $250.

Lets get our inhouse talent to make a wooden keyboard display shelf capable of holding tons of keyboards :))

I don't even want to copy it. Looking at the pictures I don't think it is any better constructed than something from Ikea. That's ok if you're using rubber domes, but it's not going to hold 5 Model Ms, let alone Model Fs.

That is ridiculous.
1. A "cabinet" has doors or drawers that close and protect against dust. This does not, so it is not technically a cabinet.
2. Keyboard collectors want closed boxes, to protect against dust.
3. There is no point with having an open back for cables, because you don't use keyboards in a cabinet - you use them on a desk. If you are serious about keyboards, then you are serious about ergonomics.
4. If you have multiple machines with one monitor on a switch, then you use a switch so that you can use one keyboard/monitor/mouse combo for all machines. Otherwise, you have one keyboard/monitor/mouse/computer combo on another desk. Ergonomics matter.

Think the cabinet I saw at Ikea could hold 12 keyboards and was like..$80? Definitely less than $100.

What on earth... is that guy high? I could build that in a day for about £25. Doesn't even look that tidy! If it beautifully crafted by the beast then i'd maybe consider it, but a spray painted, simple wooden cabinet.. Nah.

1. This looks like a 3rd Grade art project from the pictures
2. I could built it myself for like tree fiddy if that lochness monster hadn't taken it
3. Ever heard of a KVM?

"We have contracted with Techwood Design (www.techwood-design.com) to manufacture the Keyboard Kabinet in finished product form at their Dallas warehouse for $45 per Kabinet."

If GHers want this, he has quite conveniently linked to a place to supply for a group buy.
