Customs retention reason : Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner

Happens in India as well, I on the other hand have been lucky and was charged customs only on my Ducky ZERO, sine then I have decided, I will build all keyboards myself, not just because of the customs, but because it is so much more fun, keyboard is flexible as far as layout and operations go, and the self satisfaction.

I will start building mine as well. Just need more time!

I got an ergodox, but I read it would be hard to do it as a first project! Now I am undecided :(

Give me the name of the monster who ill informed you. ErgoDox was my first keyboard assembly and I did not have any hiccups at all. Worked on the first try.

I think JD said it would be 7 out 10 in difficulty! But then there was a thread 'did i ruin my ergodox?' and someone said the pcb is quite resistant!

So you think it won't be a problem using the ergodox as a first rat?

I have no 1 and 10 to compare with relatively, I can tell you objectively, I didn't find it hard, specially if you follow the advise of what everyone mentions here and there, keep WFD's video besides you for reference. The 'Did I ruin my ErgoDox' thread would have read the name of the keyboard the user tried soldering for the first time on, if it weren't the ErgoDox, it was his first try and I feel the ErgoDox PCB is actually quite resilient thus making it a good first. If you are not confident, then just don't go for SMD stuff, go all through hole.

The eDox was my first proper soldering project, I just watched the EEVblog soldering videos and then followed the massdrop assembly guide and it worked like a charm. Not hard at all.

Wasn't me! Heck, I haven't even assembled my ErgoDox yet, so how would I know? ;D

Good luck!

i never bought anything that expensive to be charged by customs.
but i still wonder why an item stays a dozen of days in the customs office. do they need to smell it from all sides or what?

No idea! But they do stay a while. Perhaps they try it so they can steal it? :P

I'm guessing it takes a while because there's just one person checking all of them, and that person is a smoker and coffee drinker and spends 75% of the day in smoke- and coffee breaks.
