Title: NOO!!!! lemonade on my new QFR
Post by: Reckthor on Wed, 11 September 2013, 22:02:30
Well 3 day's after getting my QFR MX Blues in the mail my brother spills lemonade on it......i cleaned it best i could but now. A week after all key's work but many of them are very stiff. So last weekend i pulled a few switches off. From what i can tell the white slider on the blue stem is not sliding down at all. any ideas on what to do? I have the idea of maybe getting some clears  but I don;t know if paying 1.75$ each from wasd is the right way to go.

Most people on here will tell you that $1.75 is way too high and you should be paying something like $0.30 to $0.50 a switch.

If this happened to me, I'd disconnect the daughter board and wash the rest of the board in water while actuating the keys.  Then I'd use an air blower and blow as much water as I could off the board.  Then I'd stick it in the oven at a low temperature until I thought it was dry.

But I'm sure a safer method would be to desolder the switches and just clean just them.  But I'm too lazy to do that.

I think the slider doesn't slide down is because the lemonade stick the slider and the stem together. I think you can clean the stem, slider, and the spring first.

If you have already removed the switch, then a replcement is the best way to go.

If there are only a few that don't work, $1.74 might be the way to go.

If there are many more, then do seek a cheaper price.

If most switches are broken, depending on how much you want to pay for a nearly full set of switches and the time required to resolder all switches, you might even consider a replacement keyboard.

As long as it wasn't minute maid..

But you can try rinsing the stiff switches in rubbing alcohol, I feel that the sugar hardened and is preventing the switch from depressing without friction

I did check out the link and thank you for posting it. I have already started cleaning the switches. But now that i have them off id like to try different switch types. That's why i am looking for other options like may be whole new switches or just clear stems. I have found switches but i don't even know where to look for stems.

Thanks again for the help
