Title: Fix broken key on AT102W?
Post by: patmok on Mon, 01 December 2008, 10:37:16
Hello,

I just got a Dell AT102W and some keys are not working, so i took it apart to try to see if i can see what is wrong. But I could not seperate the metal plate where the switches are from the PCB (I removed all visible screws) is there a way to do this? The broken key switch does not look damaged physically when I remove the keycap.

The only way to remove the metal from the PCB is to de solder every switch.
What I would do is de solder the faulty ones and relegate them to some unused keys.
I don't remember ever using * for example.
You could try opening the switch to see what's up but they are very delicate and can be easily broken.
Someone else more knowing may have a better idea but its what I do. Just move the faulty ones.

No way to remove a switch without de-soldering, IIRC.

Try cleaning the switches.
