Back before enlightenment, I acquired a Lycosa when they first came out (2007 IIRC). The main attraction to the keyboard wasn't for its backlighting, but for the laptop-esque keys and their short travel, as well as its lower profile.
The low, flat keys made it a joy to type on for years, but obviously given its non-mechanical nature, I was always seeking something else. I never did delve too hard into searching for a mechanical equivalent, but a general perusal online years ago, showcased virtually no options.
A few months ago, I came across a picture of the G80-3800 (2012 review here (http://deskthority.net/news-reviews-f4/cherry-g80-3800-mx-board-2-0-t2256.html)):

I was wondering if anyone knows of a keyboard that's similar in nature to the G80-3800/Lycosa, in a low profile and flat key caps?

I think what you're describing is the new(ish) Cherry G80-3850.

I wonder where a person could buy the Cherry G80-3850 ansi?

I'm pretty sure they make them in ANSI layout, there's one for sale on eBay.co.uk (bundled with a RAT mouse...) at the moment.

I clicked through the link in the review, and under "Alternative/Complementary products" there was a US/ANSI version.

PCHome has G80-3850 ANSI (http://global.pchome.com.tw/english/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DCAH21-A77032870). They ship international, so you don't need to hassle with proxies. The G80-3494 has full height normal Chery profile, not like what OP is looking for, but it is a damn nice keyboard.
To answer OP, there are no other MX keyboards with this kinds of keycaps, but perhaps you might like ML switch which can be found in Cherry G84 series. Those can be found for pretty cheap on ebay most of the time.

Thanks for the informative reply. Chances are a G80-3800/3850 will find its way into my arsenal given that information. Just a real shame these types of caps and profiles aren't more popular.
