Title: [ebay] Genovation Numeric Keypad MicroPad 623 - SOLD
Post by: Tarzan on Mon, 16 September 2013, 13:17:59
This one has the DB9 connector, not sure if it can be modded to work via PS2?  $15 and free shipping.

double shots?

It certainly looks like it. $15 shipped is a steal, but you will need a converter.

I grabbed this, thanks for posting it. I've been looking for a  keypad that was normal sized (most keypads seem to add an extra row) and cheap. This checked both these boxes. Now I just have to decide how to hack this to work with my computer.

Post some pics once you get it, let us know what the switches look like!  I don't know much about converting from a DB9 connector, but I'm sure there are people on the forum who can lend a hand.

Good luck!

It looks like it DOES use Cherry switches. It says tactile, so I'm guessing it uses MX Brown.

That sounds right, from what I've heard of these keypads.  There are also DB9-to-USB converters available fairly cheap, that might be the easiest way to use this on a Windows PC.

Got this in today. Turns out the switch type is white alps (clicky). And the keycaps are pad printed. So pretty disappointed.

But I might still use it. I did want a clicky 4x5 keypad. So even if it isn't exactly what I was hoping for it might still get some use.

Yes, the 632 is a membrane keypad.

There are a lot of interesting keycaps available for Alps, if you want to update the look a bit.  And I believe you can swap Matias switches in for Alps, their quiet click versions are pretty sweet (and cheap).  Of course, you can also mod clicky Alps switches to non-clicky (linear) versions.

Who sells alps keycaps? I took a quick look around and all I saw was Signature Plastics selling a red esc key.

Edit: I took a few photos.

I was thinking more of Alps caps from donor keyboards, I've accumulated quite a few from old Toshiba laptops, for example.  Although the double-shot caps you have on the keypad already look quite nice!

It's actually pretty yellowed. It's hard to tell from one photo but compare the top picture to the bottom. It's supposed to be the same color all the way around.

They keycaps are sadly not double-shot they are pad printed. But they don't really show any sign of wear other than some yellowing.

My mistake, the keycaps look pretty nice in your pics!  I'm feeling kind of guilty, since I posted this "find," let me look around this weekend, I may have a few spare caps that would work on the keypad.
