Gigabyte gk-k8000 first review
finally the gigabyte keyboard gets a review
http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1678/gigabyte_gk_k8000_ghost_gaming_keyboard/index.html
-
hmm, looks cool. any word on how much it costs?
edit: yipes just noticed the larg enter key, well there goes my interest
-
it's an ugly but strangely attractive keyboard with black switches ...
my guess is 100-125$
-
That's a good way to describe it. I like it but I wouldn't buy it because of the Filco 87 key with black Cherrys.
-
The best thing about it is that if it's a sales success (and with Gigabyte being a huge volume seller renowned for good prices I don't see why not), other mass market manufacturers might join the market. At the very least, later in the product cycle this board will be quite cheap ...
If this was a Filco / DAS / insert other small specialty manufacturer here, it would be double the price, 200-250$, it would have way costlier support etc. So it's likely the best value black cherry keyboard by far.
-
gaming keyboards aren't well known for being mass sellers for the reason being there are not that many really serious gamers.
The main key features are
programmability(on the go programmability which is just useful for setting quick macros)
n-key rollover(as more and more games require more combo key presses to pull off special maneuvres)
built in sound card (so you dont need to run 4 cables from your pc to your keyboard like the steelseries 7g)
multiple coloured keyswitches(orange, grey and black)
mx black switches(which are just reliable and just work, some gamers seem to think browns and blues aren't necessary for gaming either because blues irritate them or browns are too light)
Anyway that extra row of programmable keys is what i'm most interested in as it is useful inside and outside of games and always another set of keycaps(orange) always fun to make a really interestingly colour keyboard.
-
If I ever get one, the orange keycaps will be the first to go .. :D
-
I think this keyboard is ugly. The image of the soldier holding it like a gun says it all... Not for me. ;)
-
Chloe, girls like low profile, pretty, blinking keyboards. This is obviously marketed to male teens, so angular shooter inspired it is ... :)
-
This 35 year old boy thinks the solder on the box is cool.

I wouldn't make sweeping generalisations about what girls like. ;)

lol! Oh you're going to get into trouble for that... ;)
-
I like virtual soldiers...
I kinda like the orange keys actually ;) A dash of color like that "red" escape key on that topre board.
...But the miniscule backspace key would kill it for me ;)
I actually think everyone could use a lot of the features in gaming boards, whether or not you're a gamer. (nicer keys, macros, backlighting - all always nice even for writers).
-
Red is cool. Orange is not. This is why you don't see many orange Ferraris hurtling around. It looks retro like something designed in the 70s. Functional and well-built, no doubt, but not for me. If I wanted black cherries I could go for a Steelseries 7G instead of this.

I dont know, orange and black do seem to go together. Even if its a little retro :)

-
I like orange as a colour, it just doesn't go with anything without looking 70's.
-
Kids love it too. :)

-
lol - nice!
-
7g is much more expensive, not programmable, looks plain.
I built a lot of systems for girls, not one of them chose big and functional over low profile and pretty. :)
-
I like the idea of the audio jacks on there.
The soldier made me laugh. Very appropriate.

Not a Ferrari, but still. Just Sayin'.:p

Looks like a toy-car designed by a 12-year old. No deal! This is why the Reventon only comes in a greeny-black :P
-
if you ask me even the new focus gt looks pretty cool ;)

Greeny-black?
Isn't the Reventon bare CF? I'd adjust your monitor. ;)

That carrot is hot!
-
Hot, sweaty carrot
I'll see your carrot and raise you this:

(i was gonna post the nasty pic with dumbbells, but I don't want to see that again)

Lol!! Good god. There's one image where orange doesnt work at all. ;)
-
(i was gonna post the nasty pic with dumbbells, but I don't want to see that again)[/SIZE]
lol I found that one first and that's what made me decide to go with a real carrot.
-

It's painted carbon-fibre (I am assuming so because you can't see the underlying weave). The one I saw on TV was a murky dark-green metallic shade, similar to the one shown here: http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/lamborghini-reventon.htm (http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_reports/lamborghini-reventon.htm)
There are others though that appear to be grey. The shape of the car is pretty awesome, I must say.

That failure of a car looks like a cheap F-117 imitation. Miuras and Countaches are Lambo's best cars and the Diablo being the last true Lambo imo. (the Jalpa is cool too but it's like a Pantera imitation and not a real Lambo)
-
Why do these kind of cars always seem to be scowling?
-
my cousins say that orange is the colour which everyone wants to hit on another note all buddhist monks where orange peace and conflict all in one

I just went along with the program, LOL anyway

(09:32:51) bel: if i was a proper geek i really would have this
(09:32:52) bel: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/a85c/
(09:33:14) Eric Rucker: nah
(09:33:27) bel: but it's so pretty
(09:33:31) bel: and you can change the pattern
(09:33:41) Eric Rucker: but proper geeks don't give a **** about that :P
(09:33:55) bel: *makes a sad face*
(09:34:17) Eric Rucker: besides, if you were a proper geek, you'd really have one of these: http://www.preater.com/modelm/images/model-m-front-large1.jpg
(09:34:27) Eric Rucker: (hey, I even got the right layout :P)
(09:34:35) bel: ugly
(09:35:35) bel: but i'm a girl
(09:35:49) Eric Rucker: lol
(09:36:04) Eric Rucker: so?
(09:36:11) bel: so i like pretty things
And...
(09:37:19) bel: it's simple
(09:37:23) bel: girls like pretty things
(09:37:25) bel: if they don't
(09:37:27) bel: they're ugly
(09:37:37) bel: even ugly girls like pretty things
(09:38:08) bel: so they have to be total heifers to not like pretty things
-
Epic win, bhtooefr... I think that's bash.org material.
And I like pretty things, but I'm more than willing to sacrifice a bit of prettyness to have something that works beautifully. Which is why I have a Dell AT101W in front of me now. It's not the most attractive keyboard, but it works beautifully.
-
That is pretty epic, considering she wants a low profile, flashing keyboard. :p
And I'm a guy, so I've got a Model M in front of me. ;)

Yeah, I missed the irony there. I don't consider the flashing stuff to be pretty, just gaudy. That Luxeed keyboard reminds me so much of a 70s light-up disco dance floor.
-
There is already a lit up cherry based keyboard http://www.deckkeyboards.com/ but at the moment they only do single leds and not programmable. If I were made of money i'd get one of the smaller boards and see if I could modify the black cherrys to blue/brown as I heard it is mighty difficult. It is a nice keyboard with unique style keycaps also.

True that it's a nice keyboard, and the Cherry blacks are my favorite of the MX switches, but the layout on the 84 key just sucks. If they would totally redo their space saver, I might look into it, but for the time being, F*** the Deck in the A**.
The Legend is cool, but it's a tank.
-
Why do these kind of cars always seem to be scowling?
Because studies have shown that people like angry looking cars
http://wot.motortrend.com/6295753/miscellaneous/study-people-like-angry-looking-cars-best/index.html (http://wot.motortrend.com/6295753/miscellaneous/study-people-like-angry-looking-cars-best/index.html)
-
Interesting, I'd like to see the study results. I prefer happy or otherwise cute looking cars.
-
Some cars look better cute (my Miata counts as that,) some cars look better angry.
-
I don't drive, but if I could I'd like one of these:

*hilarious* :)
The first one looks like a rolling muffin.

What is a rolling muffin? It's a Nissan Figaro.

Ahh. :) They have it in other retro colours but I really like the pink.

how come you dont drive? dont need a car?
My beloved little honda civic is rusting in my mom's driveway (dont need a car in NYC).

-
I don't need one. It seems silly if you live in a city with good public transport. :)
-
wellington1869: Do realize that many people in Europe don't need cars to get anywhere. ;)
(For that matter, if I still had my old job, I could've done about 70% of my normal travel in a week by bicycle. But that's because I live in a small city (small, so there's not much traffic,) and my former employer is 2.5 miles away.)
-
yea I know europe is different. Cars give such a sense of freedom though, I'd miss not having one even if I dont use mine very much at all these days. I guess thats a very American thing to say ;)
-
Well, see, that's the thing... as I understand, public transit is good enough over there that you don't have to worry about having the freedom, because you know you can get to where you want to go with the public transit system.
-
The main reason I'd want a car is for personal space, something you sacrifice with public transport. It would be nice for convenience too. I don't think I'd feel any safer driving.
-
I like mean-ish looking cars. These are the last 2 I had/have. I had a 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS, and I traded it in for the Edge. Niether of these are my actual cars, just the same trim and color. Mine were/are much dirtier. :(
