Title: [help] Razer BlackWidow Ulti 2013 Stealth
Post by: Arut on Tue, 24 September 2013, 02:34:50
Hi! It is my 1st post so hello everyone!

After 2 months of searching, googling etc I gave up and decided to ask you for help. All I found is: "nvm it works now", "I trashed that piece of sh$t" etc. I am looking for cause and solution so please don't write "buy another one, not Razer!!!" etc.

But straight to the point. On my keyboard keys: ESC, a, g, h, v, num0, num, num3 stopped working. On the beginning OS restart was helping. Later, after one month unplugged, kb has self-repaired. Then it happened again. I made RMA, Razer gave me new one, but I still have old one. They ordered me to cut the cord. So I did it, and later repaired the cut ;-) No big deal.

I checked switched - works fine in electronic way. There is connection when pressed etc.
Reinstall synapse - didn't help.
Checked on another comps - still the same (win xp, win7, win8, RedHat, Ubuntu).

Anything could be helpfull. Thanks!

PS. I hope that this is good place to post it.
PS2. I really like that Razer keyboard - it just comfortable for me. Coding on it, imho, is like poetry.

If the switches still work, it's probably an issue with the controller. I don't think there is a replacement controller for the BW, so I would recommend just harvesting the switches. You can also check for broken traces on the PCB.

I know that you didn't want to hear that, but I would get a different keyboard with MX Blues if you just like the keyboard because of its feel, not because of its look. You could sell the switches of the defect keyboard to get some money for a different keyboard, we can recommend you one if you want.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Given the dispersal of broken keys across the keyboard, it is unlikely to be a bad solder joint, but might be something to check as you have several keys in the same place malfunctioning.

Thank You for replies. I had some free time yesterday so I decided to check every solders. They looks fine. I think BlueBär is right - it can be controller. Unfortunately. So for that moment I have to give up on it. Maybe some day, if I have some money to spend and I find some another broken bwu to sell, I will join them and bring force to the balance ;) If not - I have lots of good switches.

I thought that I can repair it, because of symptoms - the keyboard was working fine for eq. a week and then those keys stops working. After few reboots or just after some time (day, week) it was self-repairing. Maybe it can happen in this time either?  ;)

One out of the box suggestion: delete all your profiles. That way everything will be reset.

Sometimes you accidentally program your keyboard or add macros on the fly without noticing it, causing it to work in unexpected ways.
