MS should just open source the protocol that they use for the cover and dock.

Please tell me why that needs to be a thing.

I agree, personally (can't stress that enough) I don't really have a use for tablets. Sure it's a slick piece of hardware, but personally I would always be carrying a (real) keyboard with it...so I might as well have a laptop.
I am disappointed in that I have not heard that the new Surface RT 2 would support stylus ...
On the Pro (and Pro 2), the stylus is detected separately from the touch. This means that you can do different things with the stylus and the fingers. There are also ways in which touch and pen can be used together to do things that you couldn't do before.
But for this to take off, it needs to be implemented all throughout the line, or developers will only cater to the lowest common denominator.

the pen on RT would just be gimmicky just like the pen on the galaxy note line..
But the pen on the Pro 2 actually turns it into a fantastic cintiq alternative...Show Image(http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/tuzki-bunnys/tuzki-bunny-emoticon-016.gif)
the pen on RT would just be gimmicky just like the pen on the galaxy note line..Whenever I tried the pen on a Galaxy Note, the pen lag was ridiculous and the apps crashed more than once during the same session. For me, that is what makes the pen a gimmick on the Galaxy Note.

I would recommend a tablet with Windows for Pen Computing for maximum stylus performance.Show Image(http://static6.businessinsider.com/image/4e13224b49e2ae1761120000-1200/windows-for-pen-computing-kicked-off-microsofts-tablet-efforts-back-in-1991.jpg)

There's that, and then there's the fact that there just plain weren't enough apps to take advantage of the pen. Combine that with a creaky plastic body and a subpar screen, and you've got yourself a failure.
