Originative sells springs not sure of his website. Originative.com

hm... now that I've seen this and they are cheap, i'm thinking of maybe turning my blues into crazy super heavy greens as well... 80g springs!
-
Think WhiskyTango has a ton of Black switches for cheap for sale in the Classifieds still.

I do, but they are all old production. I have actually never beheld a modern black switch, but I have a suspicion that the older/vintage black springs are not as stiff as newer current production ones. I have a board with newer blacks on it's way to me, and I plan to do a side by side test.
I have made ghetto greens with some of these older black springs and I like them. They are significantly stiffer than normal blues. I am typing on them now in fact.
I also have a pack of 80g originative springs that I am going to drop into the blues on my Phantom when I get a chance. I already tried out a test switch, and those suckers are stiff! I did a side by side with a vintage green (the only green switch I own, one single switch), and blue with vintage black spring, and a blue with 80g spring. The 80g was noticeably stiffer than the other two.
It went: blue with 80g>vintage green>blue with vintage black spring. I plan more tests in the future. I have yet to use anything objective like the nickel test.
EDIT: OP, I have an extra bag of @100 vintage black springs. You can have them for cost of shipping. Just PM me if interested.

would you like a modern green switch? I can send you one.

Yes, Ray, I would. I'm not sure how accurate a sample size of one would be, but it's better than none!

Ok sending you PM as to not get too off topic here.

Greens are 80cN, blacks are 60cN. Wouldn't blues with black springs be 'Ergo Greens'?
-
It's weird, the numbers would show that the switches would feel different but the Green and Ghetto Greens feel the same to me. Plus its colloquial (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_MX_Ghetto_Green). If you say Ghetto Greens, people usually know what you're talking about.
And you have to remember that there is a tolerance band that would bring those numbers closer together.

I also think that the tactile bump of the blue/green adds to the resistance. With linear, there is nothing pushing back except for the spring itself. With tactile, there is the friction of the bump + the spring resistance. So a black spring in a blue switch requires more force to actuate than a black spring in a black switch.

So what happens if you put a green spring in a black switch  :P
No really that's an interesting thought.

Right...thats why I said 'ergo GREENS'. Because 60cN tactile is lighter than 80cN tactile.

rknize says there is no difference (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46449.msg981813#msg981813)
So, according to him, you would still have a black. I will test this out when I get the switches if you'd like, although rknize's research looks pretty thorough.
Edit: Ahh, I see what you're saying pixel, I misunderstood. Ergo Green would suggest that you are taking a green switch and putting in a lighter spring, therefore altering the feel of the green, correct?. The point of a Ghetto Green is to make it be like a green, not different than a green. It is given that green stems are identical to blue stems except for color. And arguably, or at least according to rknize's claims, greens and blacks have the same spring. So effectively, a ghetto green IS a green in terms of characteristics, only the color of the stem is blue. Of course I know there are arguments about whther blacks and greens actually share identical springs, just see the thread I linked above about rknize's measurements.

I have almost every switch and many springs I could try most of this out for myself it's just nicer hearing it from others :D

well, I have put 80g originative springs in the blue switches on my phantom. They are not for the faint of heart! I have this keyboard side by side with my Rosewill with blue switches and vintage black springs, and there is quite the noticeable difference. 80g feels much stiffer.
I'm gonna do a nickel test at some point.
