Title: Mapping numpad with fn button with linux?
Post by: slashbreak on Mon, 30 September 2013, 15:12:42
So my QFR came today, and I'm very pleased with it. My question is whether it is possible to set up a layer on top of the letter keys, like numpads on laptop boards, using the Fn lock to toggle? Currently fn+F5-F12 are detected and serve as media keys. I have used xev to check whether the keys are being recognised, and any other combination, e.g. Fn+a doesn't give an output. Is this simply because it hasn't been configured, or because it cannot be? If you could point me in the right direction regarding the fn button/lock that'd be great. I'm on debian, by the way.

Cheers

thanks! is hardware mapping the only option then, or could some sort of autokey do the same job, in a roundabout way?

Fn keys aren't recognized by software. They're performed at a hardware level. The only way to change them is via hardware (replacing the controller).
