Title: Worst looking keyboard
Post by: Findecanor on Tue, 01 October 2013, 20:45:31: As a counter to the Best LOOKING keyboard (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=46957.0) thread, name the worst looking keyboards that you've ever seen!

Pics are welcome.

It is unnecessary to post pictures of keyboards that are merely dirty, grimy, covered with vomit, etc.. because we have already seen lots images of those in other threads. What is more interesting are keyboards that are just as ugly when clean.

All Deck keyboards look like crap, but this one is on another level. I feel like this is something that would have looked cool in the 90s. The early 90s.

reminds me of chewed bubblegum..

not ugly... but, I think it would've looked better with a bit more contrast.

The versions with translucent case are even worse.

Other than those, I dislike the rubber domes ones from the early 00s with really wide rounded borders. They look like they have melted to form a puddle on the desk. There are many examples of that.

Hey! I like the SkiData blue plank!

If there was only a way to make that upper area functional I'd be using one right now... Just sort of silly to use it at work, and have to explain to everyone who stops by that the upper keys don't do anything. :p

Off the top of my head, I can think of two boards that were practucally made for Miami. One is yours, the other is mistakemistake's anodized LZ-GH. The rest just don't "do it" for me.

that said, I don't dare post pictures of my own keyboards. My color schemes are not for everyone...

I don't think that Deck doubleshots its keys. The keycaps I have seen (online) consist of two parts: a translucent core and an opaque skirt.
According to their FAQ (http://www.deckkeyboards.com/faq.php), the legend is dye-sublimated in inverse.

However, their FAQ is a bit inconsistent:
Keycaps and housings are made from a polycarbonate plastic (PBT) with the exception of the spacebars which are made from ABS plastic..
Last time I checked, PBT was in the polyester family, and is not a polycarbonate plastic.

When I first discovered Cherry MX, I thought that Azio Levetron was sort of badass. I thought Filco was too boring. My, how times have changed. As I searched these forums, I gradually became more aware of the aesthetic side of keyboards.

That aside, I hope I didn't offend the people at Deck and Azio who work hard to bring a good product to market. I realize how difficult it can be to make something that will sell. It isn't merely a hobby to them, it puts food on their table.
