Hello do you have to install the software to get the keyboard to work as I have no need for them right now but I will in the future...?

No, the software is only if you want to use the macro stuff. My sister has my old one and never installed the software, it works fine, the LED options work as well.

Thanks for all your help! I've decided to go for a 85, with MK red keys for gaming, they have come down in price too :)

You did say on your other post that you wanted blue LEDs, well the 85 that I have, and that I have seen, are all red LED. Its the 80 that is blue LEDs

The Q-pad and the nighthawk looks exactly the same except the nighthawk x8 has NKRO I don't know about the Q-pad

I've got a mx red q-pad 85 and I wouldn't say it was quite! Does anyone else agree with me about this keyboard??

Quieter than blues.... It's loud if you bottom out. You might want to consider o-rings.
