Title: Got started on Coffee
Post by: tp4tissue on Wed, 02 October 2013, 09:38:24
Getting old, need energy....  (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/485c3a61.gif)

Question:

Is it supposed to make you constantly Hungry?  I feel alert, but also compelled to snack....

Is it better to drink small amounts throughout the day,  vs a large dose all at once....

It does tend to make you hungry after drinking a cup or two... and if you don't eat something, it'll feel like your gonna die after a few hours.

And yes, I'd drink a cup or two in the morning, then one cup later in the day to keep you going.

Or just drink lots of black tea. Not as much of a caffeine rush, but the effects last much longer.

Coffee has killed more people than sharks, but you know... live dangerously.

Why do they put so much caffeine in diet pills if this stuff makes you hungry? (http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/tuzki-bunnys/tuzki-bunny-emoticon-052.gif)

they put caffeine in diet pills to help motivate someone to be more activate, to give them the feeling of oh these pills are giving me energy, you can become addicted to caffeine maybe a ploy to keep people buying their pills.

How much and how often you drink is entirely up to you.. If you start shaking, you should prolly lay off for a bit tho. ;) Typically, darker roasted coffees have less caffeine in them than light roasts.. You may want to keep this in mind when you got for your afternoon cup. Some rules of thumb for buying your own coffee... Don't buy coffee from the bins, and try to buy the freshest roasts possible... I prefer to support my local roasters. ;D Cheers!

You can do a lot worse than a press pot of the lighter roasts at TJs

You guys and your fancy-schmancy presses. If I want really good coffee, I just use a French press. :)

You may just need to find a coffee/roast that you like.. IMO good coffee should be enjoyed black. If your coffee tastes like ciggs, I think you have bad coffee and/or should quit smoking. =D *I kid! I kid*

http://buy.stumptowncoffee.com/

Stumptown, Sight Glass, Blue Bottle & Ritual all kill it though.

Pick up an AeroPress/ press pot (French press) and a cheap Hario burr grinder to get started

Nope. Some of the water might dehydrate and it will be stronger. Good for ice coffee.

i used to drink a lot of coffee. like, 16oz drip cup with 4 shots of espresso and the rest filled with drip. i mellowed out and right now i'm just drinking mate. it's better for you and i think the effect lasts longer and is less abrasive than coffee :) but that s subjective and there is question about whether mateine is even different from caffeine at all.

It won't spoil, but the taste degrades if you leave it the pot on the hot plate all day (assuming you're just using. standard drip machine)

i don't know if i could explain it... my palette is nothing to be proud of. you can usually find it in most grocery stores in tea bags or loose leaf, which my mom uses in a french press. i think the most common brand is guyaki but there are lots of others. you can also get it bottled with flavors but i prefer it hot.
i drink it with nothing in it, sometimes i get flavored tea bags of it. you can serve it with milk/soymilk (which my mom does) and/or with a bit of sugar or honey as well. as long as you don't steep it in boiling water it shouldn't be very bitter; i like the taste of it plain.

No I measure out the exact 6oz volume of water per 1 tablespoon of coffee...  boil water in a regular pot, and then spoon in the ground... then sieve...

I have a coffee maker, but I don't know where it is, I like this though, because it feels ceremonial and relaxing..

So you're drinking coffee with the grounds still in it? Or are you using instant coffee?

Either way, stop it

More like cowboy style coffee but he is filtering. Kind of a poor man's pour-over.
