Hi all,
I'm sorry for posting this issue here but who knows more about mechanical keyboards the GH community :)
A year ago I bought a Filco Majestouch keyboard which I've been pretty happy with. Though from the outset there was an issue I was having with it that at first didn't bother me. Recently since I started bringing my keyboard to and from work the problem became more apparent I would like to find a solution.
Basically, when plugging my keyboard into the PC whilst it is on and booted into windows, the keyboard puts the computer to sleep as if I had hit some kind of sleep button. More often than not, when I try to wake it from sleep the computer would start up but would not fully load to the login screen. I managed to work around this minor issue by going into the power options and changing "Choose what happens when the sleep button is pressed" to "Do Nothing". At that point I thought I was set and could continue on without worry. However after shutting down my computer and restarting with the keyboard plugged in the computer boots and then immediately enters sleep mode, attempting to wake it from sleep has the same effect as before yet this time it crashes and has trouble with consecutive reboots.
I don't have this issue with any other (lesser) keyboard I've tried and I also have the same problem with it at work.
This issue is also present on Windows 8 and 7 AFAIK
I have come here in the hopes that this is not a fault with my Filco as it may be difficult to return it (and I don't have to tell you how expensive these keyboards are!), perhaps there is some kind fix I don't know about or a firmware update I can grab, though I doubt it.
Any help would be appreciated, past experiences with similar issues would be good to hear.
Regards

It might not even be the keyboard. Have you tried on other computers at home? Does this happen on your work computer?
-
Yes I have tried on both computers at home and my work computer and the same issue arises.
However on one of my home computers the keyboard seems to put my computer to sleep just as windows is about to load the login screen and when I press a key, mouse button or hit the power switch the PC boots back up but seems like the display driver fails to load because the monitor acts as if it isn't connected to anything (occasionally restarting without loading the display driver).
I would be happy with the work around I mentioned above if I didn't have to unplug my keyboard everytime I wanted to turn on my computer.

Did this ever occur with the keyboard before the Filco?
-
Nope, never, I am 99% sure it is the keyboard.

It is sounding more like some weird sort of controller error.
Filco has a fixed cable, otherwise I would suggest you try a different cable, especially as you have been carrying the keyboard around. For keyboards with a detachable cable this sometimes weakens or loosens the mini USB plug in the keyboard.
Is it still under warranty?
-
I had not damaged the cable by carrying it around too and from work I think I said in the OP that the problem was apparent from the outset. So that theory can be ruled out.
Hmm, well I bought it through Amazon from the The Keyboard Company during December last year, the terms and conditions state that there is a 1 year warranty on their products so yes it is still under warranty. Would you recommend I try to return it for a new one? Is this problem really an abnormality for a fairly high end machine running Windows 8/7?

I have not heard of this problem before. Not saying I have heard of every Filco problem, but not this one.
Unless anyone else has?
If it under warranty, won't hurt to ask if you can exchange it.
